Main missions

The Piping Engineer contributes throughout all project phases: studies, design, fabrication follow-up, quality control, and commissioning. He/She ensures that piping systems meet technical, safety, and performance requirements while complying with nuclear industry standards and regulations.

He/She works closely with civil, mechanical, I&C, and safety engineering teams to integrate all discipline-specific constraints into the design. He/She also provides technival support during construction and operational phases.

Job activities

  • Design and Sizing of Piping Networks: Design piping systems (water, steam, cooling circuits, etc.) according to RCC-M and nuclear standards, accounting for thermal, mechanical, vibratory, and safety constraints.
  • Modeling and Mechanical Calculations: Perform flexibility, stress, and support load calculations using specialized software (e.g., CAESAR II, ROHR2, Autopipe) to ensure structural integrity.
  • Technical Documentation Preparation: Write calculation notes, technical specifications, layout drawings, and compliance documents in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Fabrication and Installation Follow-up: Participate in design reviews, monitor supplier production and on-site installation to ensure conformity with project specifications.
  • Quality Control and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with nuclear quality standards (RCC-M, ESPN, ASME codes), documentation traceability, and application of inspection procedures (e.g., dye penetrant, radiography, hydrostatic testing).
  • Non-conformity Management: Identify, analyze, and process technical deviations and non-conformities in collaboration with quality and inspection departments.
  • Technical Support to Project Teams: Provide technical support to construction, maintenance, or operation teams, particularly during critical phases (testing, commissioning, in-service modifications).
  • Technical Watch and Continuous Improvement: Monitor regulatory, technological, and methodological developments related to piping systems in the nuclear industry.

Required skills

A Piping Engineer in the nuclear energy sector should possess the following skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of piping codes and standards applicable to nuclear installations (RCC-M, ESPN, ASME, EN13480, etc.).
  • Proficiency with piping stress and flexibility analysis tools (e.g., CAESAR II, Autopipe, ROHR2).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and 3D models.
  • Understanding of fabrication, welding, and inspection techniques for piping assemblies.
  • Strong documentation and quality culture, with a high attention to detail and safety.
  • Project-oriented mindset and ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (design, quality, suppliers, site).
  • Strong analytical thinking, methodical approach, and risk anticipation.
  • Good command of technical English (required for interpreting standards and working on international projects).
