According to the report “Renewable energies and jobs – Annual Review 2023” of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the number of people employed in the renewable energy sector worldwide has increased by 8% to reach 13.7 million jobs in 2022.
According to IRENA forecasts, to achieve global climate goals, the number of jobs in the renewable energy sector could reach 38 million by 2030.
Solar PV is the fastest growing sector, accounting for more than a third of the total renewable energy sector workforce, reaching 4.9 million jobs.
Hydroelectricity is the 2nd most job-creating sector with 2.5 million jobs in 2022, or 2.3% more than in 2021.
Wind energy will represent 1.4 million jobs worldwide in 2022, a fairly stable figure compared to 2021.
