Main missions
The Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in the technical oversight of assembly and installation activities for mechanical equipment during the construction of nuclear facilities. He/She ensures strict adherence to quality and safety procedures, analyzes deviations, manages non-conformities, and contributes to mechanical testing prior to commissioning.
He/She also coordinates between site teams, suppliers, engineering offices, and quality control departments to ensure consistency in execution and full traceability as required in a BNI (Basic Nuclear Installation) environment.
Job activities
- Supervision of Mechanical Equipment Installation: Monitor the on-site assembly and installation of mechanical systems (rotating machines, pressure equipment, structures, supports), ensuring compliance with plans, procedures, and installation sequences.
- Quality Control and Compliance: Participate in dimensional, visual, and functional inspections, following nuclear quality procedures and applicable manufacturing codes (RCC-M, ESPN, EN13445…). Verify material traceability, supplier documentation, and test certificates.
- Non-Conformity Management: Identify deviations from engineering or installation requirements. Propose technical solutions, follow non-conformity reports, and ensure their resolution with the relevant teams.
- Technical Interface: Coordinate technically with all stakeholders on site (construction, engineering, suppliers, QA/QC, safety) and support the resolution of technical issues during the execution phase.
- Test Preparation and Participation: Contribute to the planning and execution of mechanical tests (functional tests, pressure tests, hydrostatic testing…), and support commissioning teams during on-site testing activities.
- Technical Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical reports, site reports, inspection sheets, and mechanical completion files, ensuring proper traceability and reporting to project management.
- Nuclear Safety Compliance: Apply and enforce nuclear safety requirements related to BNI, including documentation traceability, cleanliness of controlled zones, and compliance with safety access rules.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback and lessons learned, analyze construction-related issues, and help implement corrective actions to improve site installation performance.
Required skills
A Mechanical Engineer during the nuclear construction phase should possess the following skills:
- Solid knowledge of mechanical and nuclear equipment (valves, pumps, exchangers, piping supports…).
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards: RCC-M, ESPN, ASME, EN13445, CODAP, etc.
- Experience in supervising mechanical installation in a nuclear or complex industrial environment.
- Rigor in quality assurance, technical drawing interpretation, and documentation control.
- Ability to manage non-conformities and interface with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety principles, BNI regulations, and nuclear construction practices.
- Strong teamwork skills, ability to work under pressure in a regulated environment.
- Good technical English (reading technical documents, interfacing with international partners).
