Main missions

The Valve Engineer is involved from the delivery of equipment to the site and throughout its installation. He/She verifies the technical and documentation compliance of components, supervises on-site assembly operations, participates in inspections and tests, and manages non-conformities.

In collaboration with construction teams, suppliers, system engineers, and quality departments, he/she ensures that the installed valves meet functional, technical, and regulatory requirements defined for Basic Nuclear Installations (BNI).

Job activities

  • Incoming Equipment Inspection: Check the conformity of valve systems delivered to site by reviewing certificates, quality documents, serial numbers, and technical datasheets.
  • Installation Supervision: Monitor and verify valve installation activities on piping systems (positioning, tightening torque, orientation, accessibility, cleanliness), in accordance with layout drawings and project specifications.
  • Test Follow-up: Participate in functional tests (opening/closing, motorization), pressure tests, leak tests, and operability checks during the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases.
  • Non-Conformity Management: Identify technical deviations, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and propose corrective or alternative solutions that comply with project requirements.
  • Documentation and Traceability: Ensure full traceability of valves by compiling and managing welding maps, inspection records, material certificates, conformity documents, and installation follow-up files.
  • Project Technical Interface: Coordinate with design, quality control, testing teams, suppliers, and third-party inspectors to validate technical solutions and comply with safety authority requirements (e.g., ASN, client specifications).
  • Nuclear Safety Compliance: Strictly apply nuclear safety rules, cleanliness protocols, and installation practices required on classified nuclear sites.
  • Commissioning Support: Provide valve-related technical support during final testing and commissioning, and assist operation teams in understanding and using the installed systems.

Required skills

A Valve Engineer during the construction phase in the nuclear sector should have the following skills:

  • Solid understanding of industrial and nuclear valve systems (gate valves, safety relief valves, motorized valves, check valves…).
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards: RCC-M, ESPN, EN ISO 15848, ASME, ATEX (depending on the project).
  • Proficiency in reading P&IDs, isometric drawings, and supplier technical documentation.
  • Experience in site supervision and valve installation in BNI environments.
  • Good knowledge of fluid mechanics, instrumentation, and control system interfaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation quality.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders (site, engineering, testing, inspection, suppliers).
  • Technical English proficiency (especially for reading supplier documentation and interacting on international projects).
