Main missions

The Radiation Protection Field Coordinator is responsible for coordinating radiological operations on site, monitoring exposures, implementing preventive measures, and ensuring regulatory compliance. He/She assesses radiological risks, organizes sensitive interventions, and contributes to drafting procedures, zoning documents, and prevention plans.

Acting as the main interface with operations, maintenance teams, and external service providers, he/she ensures that all interventions in controlled areas are conducted under optimal safety, traceability, and compliance conditions while maintaining effective dose monitoring for personnel.

Job activities

  • Coordination of Controlled Area Activities: Plan, supervise, and monitor operations requiring access to radiological risk areas, ensuring all technical and regulatory prerequisites are fulfilled.
  • Radiological Risk Assessment and Management: Identify potential radiation risks associated with maintenance activities, define protective measures, and support pre-job risk assessments.
  • Intervention Preparation: Draft or validate radiation protection plans, operational procedures, and required documents (zoning maps, DATR, etc.) prior to interventions.
  • Dosimetry Monitoring: Track individual exposure levels, analyze deviations, and initiate corrective actions in case of non-compliance with dose thresholds.
  • Radioactive Waste Management: Ensure proper traceability, packaging, and removal of radioactive waste resulting from maintenance activities.
  • Regulatory and Technical Monitoring: Stay current with regulatory changes (ASN, CEFRI) and integrate best practices in radiation safety.
  • On-Site Support and Awareness: Provide technical support to field teams, lead radiological safety briefings, and ensure safety procedures are clearly communicated and followed.
  • Reporting and Audits: Prepare activity reports, support internal and external audits, and follow up on any required corrective actions.

Required skills

A Radiation Protection Field Coordinator in the nuclear energy sector – Operations & Maintenance – should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Strong command of radiation protection regulations (Labour Code, ASN, CEFRI).
  • Proficiency in radiological zoning and risk assessment methods.
  • Solid experience managing operations in controlled areas.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • High attention to detail, organizational rigor, and autonomy in field operations.
  • Radiation Protection Officer (PCR) certification or equivalent is highly recommended.
