As part of its CSR strategy and carbon reduction roadmap, Altea Energy announced in its 2025 Carbon Footprint Report that it would organize a Digital Collage Workshop (Fresque du Numérique) to raise awareness among its teams about the environmental impact of digital technologies, which account for nearly 6% of the Group’s carbon footprint.
That commitment has now become a reality: on Wednesday, July 8, the workshop took place in Paris, bringing together members of the Group’s teams for a collaborative learning experience.
A CSR strategy that continues to evolve
Following the Climate Fresk workshop held in 2024, this new collaborative session focused on a more specific topic that is closely connected to the daily work of Altea Energy’s teams: the environmental and social impacts of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence.
“After the Climate Fresk, which provides a broad understanding of environmental challenges, the Digital Collage Workshop allows us to go one step further by exploring an emissions category that is clearly identified in our Carbon Footprint Report,” explains Pamela Bobillier, Transformation Director at Altea Energy, who has led both the workshop initiative and the Group’s annual Carbon Footprint assessments since 2022.
“Digital technologies are our fifth-largest source of emissions, but they are also the one that resonates most directly with our teams, as they are part of our everyday professional activities.”
One morning, two groups, four key themes
From 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants were randomly divided into two groups of six and worked through four sets of educational cards covering digital usage, hardware, environmental challenges (including the resources required to manufacture digital equipment, copper consumption, water used to cool data centres, and end-of-life equipment management), and the social challenges associated with digital technologies.
The workshop concluded with a 45-minute collaborative discussion, during which participants identified practical actions Altea Energy could implement to reduce the environmental impact of its digital activities.
Around a dozen employees from the Paris office, representing different departments, took part in the session. They were joined by two colleagues from the Group’s subsidiaries in Algeria and Tunisia.
The workshop was facilitated by Christophe Saugé, an IT engineer who also led Altea Energy’s Climate Fresk workshop in 2024.
“It spoke to all of us”
Beyond its educational format, participants particularly appreciated how closely the topic related to their day-to-day work.
At Altea Energy, a technical assistance partner for complex energy projects, digital technologies are at the heart of our teams’ daily work. From our consultant portal and Salesforce platform for request management and administration, to international immigration management tools and, more recently, the integration of artificial intelligence into our recruitment processes, these everyday digital solutions naturally fuelled the discussions throughout the workshop.
“It was an engaging collective experience, both through the theoretical learning and the discussions that followed with the team,” says Pamela Bobillier.
“It resonated with all of us because it reflects our daily work. It raised many questions: how can we adopt a more pragmatic and less intensive use of digital technologies? How can we optimise hardware management within the company? It also prompted broader discussions around data sovereignty and the impact our choices have on natural resources.”
Another milestone in the Group’s low-carbon journey
The Digital Collage Workshop complements the action plan Altea Energy has been implementing since 2022, including its annual Carbon Footprint assessment carried out with the Sami platform, participation in the #2024jeBASCULE initiative, its remote working policy, and upcoming initiatives such as eco-challenges between subsidiaries and a dedicated carbon offset budget.
“This is an approach we firmly believe in at Altea Energy: understanding before taking action, and involving our teams in identifying practical levers to drive greater environmental responsibility,” concludes Pamela Bobillier.
