Main missions

The Lead Operations Engineer oversees the optimal operation of nuclear facilities by supporting the control room during critical phases. He/She analyzes system performance, operating deviations, and significant events, and proposes corrective or preventive actions in coordination with engineering, maintenance, and safety departments.

He/She also ensures regulatory and technical monitoring, contributes to the updating of operating procedures, participates in feedback processes (REX), and plays a major role in training operating teams. His/Her expertise reinforces the reliability of operating practices, anticipates performance deviations, and strengthens the nuclear safety culture.

Job activities

  • Operational Supervision: Provide technical support to the control room during critical operating phases (startups, shutdowns, incidents), analyze operating parameters, and anticipate deviations.
  • Event and Incident Analysis: Investigate the root causes of significant operational events, draft analysis reports, and implement corrective measures.
  • Operational Improvement: Contribute to the development and updating of operating procedures, integrate national and international feedback (REX), and lead performance enhancement actions.
  • Training and Support: Design and deliver training sessions, including simulator exercises, to maintain high operator competency levels.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to nuclear safety standards, operational guides, and regulatory requirements set by the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with safety, engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure overall plant performance and consistency.

Required skills

A Lead Nuclear Reactor Operations Engineer in the nuclear energy sector – Operations & Maintenance – should demonstrate the following skills:

  • Strong expertise in nuclear reactor operations (Pressurized Water Reactors – PWR).
  • Ability to analyze operational deviations and manage complex or incident-related situations.
  • In-depth knowledge of nuclear safety regulations and ASN requirements.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, documentation, and operating procedure development.
  • Analytical mindset, precision, resilience, and strong teamwork skills.
