Job activities

  • Well Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of wellheads, valves, tubing, casing, and other well components to identify signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.

  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing equipment as needed to ensure the proper functioning of the well. This may include repairing or replacing valves, seals, or control systems.

  • Pressure Testing: Conduct pressure tests to assess the integrity of the well’s barriers, including the casing and tubing, to ensure they can withstand the reservoir pressure and prevent leaks.

  • Fluid Sampling and Analysis: Collect fluid samples from the well and perform analyses to monitor the condition of the well and its production fluids.

  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and any repairs performed on the well. This documentation is crucial for compliance and future reference.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment during maintenance activities.

  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as well blowouts or leaks, and take corrective actions to mitigate risks.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other professionals in the oil and gas industry, including engineers, geologists, and production teams, to ensure the overall integrity and performance of the well.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot problems that may arise with well equipment or systems and implement solutions to address issues promptly.

  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with environmental regulations and industry standards.

  • Training and Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and best practices in well maintenance and integrity management through training and professional development.

Required skills

A Well Maintenance Technician in the oil and gas sector must have the following skills:
