Main missions

During the operations and maintenance phase, the Radiation Protection Supervisor monitors interventions in controlled areas, oversees the application of preventive measures, and verifies the radiological compliance of all on-site activities. He/She coordinates inspections, zone delineations, radiation monitoring campaigns, and manages radioactive waste according to operational and regulatory protocols.

He/She also plays a key role in advising and training field teams, promoting radiation safety awareness, and regularly reporting to HSE managers and nuclear safety authorities.

Job activities

  • Monitoring of controlled areas: Supervise access to radiologically controlled zones, verify the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and validate safe working conditions.
  • Radiological control of equipment and personnel: Perform or supervise contamination checks, ambient dose monitoring, and dosimetry tracking for site workers.
  • Dosimetry management: Monitor individual dose exposures, analyze any exceedances, and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensure full compliance with national radiation protection standards (ASN, CEFRI) and internal company procedures.
  • Radioactive waste management: Supervise the sorting, packaging, temporary storage, and removal of radioactive waste generated during maintenance work.
  • Incident response and analysis: Respond to radiological anomalies, conduct root cause analysis, and lead corrective action plans.
  • Training and awareness: Organize training sessions and safety briefings for workers operating in radiation areas, promoting a strong radiation safety culture.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate records, draft radiation protection reports, and support audits conducted by regulatory authorities or internal teams.

Required skills

A Radiation Protection Supervisor in the nuclear energy sector must demonstrate the following skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of radiation protection regulations and standards (ASN, CEFRI, labor code).
  • Proficiency in radiation detection and monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Ability to supervise activities in controlled zones and manage on-site radiological risks.
  • Analytical skills, rigor, and responsiveness in case of radiological events.
  • Strong communication and training abilities to raise safety awareness.
  • Required certifications: Radiation Protection Competent Person (PCR), CEFRI Level 2 preferred, up-to-date HSE qualifications.
