Senior Process Engineer

General Description

The senior process engineer will play a vital role in providing technical assistance and expertise in engineering and operations for onshore exploration and production (E&P) projects. As part of the on-site team, the senior process engineer will contribute to the successful execution of the project by ensuring efficient and effective process design, optimization, troubleshooting activities and maintaining efficient and effective industrial processes.

Duty and Responsible for

Process Design

  • Analyzing existing processes and identifying areas for improvement or new processes to be developed,
  • Creating process flow diagrams that outline the steps and components of a process,
  • Specifying equipment and materials required for the process,
  • Developing operating procedures and guidelines to ensure consistent and efficient execution of the process,
  • Develop and review process engineering designs, calculations, and specifications, ensuring compliance with project,
  • Conduct technical analyses and feasibility studies to support decision-making processes,
  • Collaborating with other engineers, stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure the design meets the desired objectives.

Process Optimization

  • Collecting and analyzing data on process performance, including production rates, cycle times, quality metrics, and resource consumption,
  • Conducting experiments and using statistical tools to identify factors impacting process efficiency and quality,
  • Implementing process improvements such as changing operating parameters, modifying equipment, or adjusting workflows,
  • Monitoring and measuring the impact of process changes to verify improvements and adjust as necessary,
  • Applying methodologies like Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement frameworks to drive optimization efforts.

Troubleshooting

  • Investigating process-related issues, such as equipment failures, quality deviations, or inefficiencies,
  • Conducting root cause analysis to determine the underlying reasons for the problems,
  • Developing and implementing corrective actions to resolve the issues and prevent their recurrence,
  • Collaborating with maintenance teams to address equipment malfunctions or breakdowns,
  • Communicating with operation team to gather information and insights about process challenges.

Process Documentation

  • Creating detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, guidelines and process specifications to ensure compliance with oil & gas industry best practices,
  • Ensuring that documentation accurately reflects the current state of processes and is accessible to relevant personnel,
  • Updating documentation when processes or equipment undergo changes,
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and quality management systems,
  • Participating in audits or inspections to verify adherence to documentation and standards.

Equipment Selection and Installation

  • Collaborating with equipment vendors and suppliers to identify suitable machinery, tools, and technologies,
  • Evaluating equipment capabilities, performance criteria, and costs,
  • Participating in equipment trials, testing, and validation activities,
  • Overseeing the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment,
  • Providing input on equipment specifications and requirements during the procurement process.

Process Monitoring and Control

  • Implementing process monitoring systems, such as distributed control systems (DCS),
  • Defining key process parameters and performance indicators to measure and monitor,
  • Analyzing real-time process data to detect deviations, trends, or anomalies,
  • Implementing control strategies, such as feedback or feedforward control, to maintain process stability and performance,
  • Utilizing statistical process control (SPC) techniques to monitor and control process variability.

Safety and Compliance

  • Identifying and assessing potential safety hazards and risks associated with processes,
  • Developing and implementing safety protocols, procedures, and training to mitigate risks,
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality requirements,
  • Participating in safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations, recommending and implementing corrective actions as required,
  • Collaborating with EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) teams to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality assurance, and research and development (R&D),
  • Participating in project teams or interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement new processes or process improvements,
  • Communicating process changes, updates, and improvement initiatives to stakeholders,
  • Providing technical support and expertise to operations team,
  • Conducting training sessions and workshops to educate personnel on new processes, equipment, or procedures.

Continuous Improvement

  • Staying updated with advancements, trends, and best practices in process engineering,
  • Participating in professional development activities, such as conferences, seminars, or training programs,
  • Applying principles of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process optimization methodologies to drive continuous improvement,
  • Leading or participating in cross-functional teams dedicated to process improvement projects,
  • Encouraging and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

  • Providing training and guidance to operations personnel on new processes, equipment, or procedures,
  • Developing training materials, manuals, or job aids to facilitate knowledge transfer,
  • Conducting workshops or sessions to share best practices and lessons learned,
  • Mentoring and coaching junior process engineers or other team members,
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the project team, operations staff, and contractors to ensure the smooth operation of process systems,
  • Documenting and sharing knowledge through knowledge management systems or platforms.

A senior process engineer may have additional responsibilities related to construction, quality, and materials. Here are some specific responsibilities in those areas

Construction

  • Collaborating with the construction team to ensure that the construction activities align with the process design and specifications,
  • Reviewing construction plans, drawings, and documents to verify compliance with project requirements,
  • Providing technical support during construction, addressing any process-related queries or issues that may arise,
  • Conducting site visits and inspections to monitor the progress of construction activities and identify potential deviations,
  • Supervises specific job at BRS CPF or well sites if necessary, during critical operations,
  • Establishes the report on specific jobs supervised in person at BRS CPF or well sites,
  • Assisting in the resolution of construction-related challenges or conflicts that impact process design or performance.

Quality

  • Developing and implementing quality control plans and procedures to ensure that processes and deliverables meet the specified quality standards,
  • Conducting inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality requirements and industry standards,
  • Collaborating with quality assurance personnel to address non-conformities, deviations, and corrective actions,
  • Participating in quality review meetings and providing input on process-related quality improvements,
  • Monitoring and analyzing quality metrics and performance indicators to identify areas for improvement.

Materials

  • Collaborating with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely and appropriate sourcing of materials required for the process,
  • Participating in the technical evaluation and selection of suppliers based on technical specifications, quality requirements, and project timelines,
  • Reviewing material specifications, certificates, and test reports to ensure compliance with project requirements,
  • Conducting material inspections and quality checks to verify conformity to specifications,
  • Providing technical support in material-related troubleshooting and problem-solving,
  • Additionally, a senior process engineer in an EPC project may have responsibilities related to project management, such as:

Project Management

  • Participating in project planning and scheduling activities, providing input on process-related tasks and milestones,
  • Monitoring and controlling project progress, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures,
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate process design considerations into overall project planning and execution,
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation activities related to process engineering tasks,
  • Collaborating with Engineering head of section to ensure timely completion of process engineering deliverables,
  • Participating in project meetings and providing updates on process-related activities and challenges,
  • Provide technical inputs for progress reports, technical proposals, and Assists in preparation of regular Engineering Progress Reports for management.

Work experience requirements

  • References in Oil Companies (Operators) in Algeria, which can be verified.
  • 10 years’ years’ experience in process engineering design, construction and commissioning of oil and gas processing facilities working either for an international Engineering Contractor and/or for an Operating Company, with at least with 5 years or more years’ experience directly supporting daily plant operations & maintenance. And with at least 3 years working in Algeria.
  • Specific experience with black oil production, water handling, dehydration,
  • Condensate & NGL processing required,
  • Proficiency in process safety practices, hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZOP), and relevant industry codes and standards,
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply technical knowledge to complex operational challenges,
  • Able to review engineering document efficiently and provide all professional comments on the engineering document submitted by discipline engineer,
  • Understanding of design review, and familiar with all types of FEED and EPC deliverables, equipment, design and construction progress reviews,
  • Full life cycle experience is essential, right from design basis, FEED and EPC scope preparation and execution, design / safety / operations reviews,
  • Able to pass a technical interview which demonstrates that the individual is suitable for the
  • Specific tasks being allocated to him,
  • Well versed in the industry practices as involved in its area of discipline.
  • Professional in engineering ethics.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse, remote and challenging environment.
  • Work within the GBRS company procedures and guidelines participating in company initiatives.
  • ·Work within the GBRS HSE procedures and guidelines participating in company HSE initiatives.

Education and qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred
  • Good command of written and spoken English,
  • Good command of spoken French is preferred,
  • Good knowledge of computer standard applications: word processing & spreadsheets and industry discipline engineering software (Aspen hysys, Aspen One, Pipesim…).

Certificates or licenses requirements

  • Certifications such as Professional Engineering (PE) license, Certified process Design Engineer (CPDE), or relevant certifications from industry organizations can enhance qualifications is highly recommended.
  • NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management (PSM) is highly recommended.
