Drilling Superintendent

Objectives of the Organization

  • Accomplish exploration activity in Deepwater Block 4E, with due consideration for HSE, by proper management and timely execution of the project as the operator in cooperation with the joint venture partners.
  • 2Accomplish exploration activity in Block SK418 and Block SK510 by proper management and timely execution of the project in cooperation with the joint venture partners.
  • Achieve early growths of Malaysia business as one of core areas of INPEX Group, (i) actively seek for new business opportunity, (ii) enhance the capability and competency of personnel in the KL Office, and (iii) expand the organization in line with the progress of the projects.
  • Contribute to business operation and development aimed at early development and realization of production and establishment of low-carbon business in Malaysia.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Planning Phase

  • Co-ordinates the overall efforts of planning, and operations strategies while obtaining all necessary approval or authority from the company.
  • Prepares and implement the tender processes in accordance with PETRONAS Procurement Standards and its relevant rules and the government regulation for critical services and materials procurement including the evaluation of tender re-submissions, and other various tenders.
  • Support engineering team members in preparation of Basis of Well Design, Drilling Program, Section Guideline, Logistics Management Plan and other related documents.
  • Manage and execute the drilling rig contract with rig intake.
  • Manage the Operations Dept. team in the well-site supervision of all drilling and well construction activities: (i) adherence to well programs and instructions, (ii) adherence to safety and environment laws & regulation, (iii) management of service company contractor.
  • Manage the Operations Dept. team in drilling support operations: (i) aviation, (ii) crew movement, (iii) supply chain management, iv) drilling programs/AFE approval from the country regulator.
  • Assists developing and monitoring the Health, Safety and Environment plan under liaise with Company’s HSE team, rig contractor and key service providers.

Operations Phase

  • Conduct morning operations calls and review morning reports from the drilling rig with the Drilling Supervisor at the rig site and the Drilling Engineers.
  • Ensure the operations are conducted in the best interest of the Company.
  • Discusses future operations plans with the Drilling Supervisor and the Drilling Engineers in an effort to optimize and eliminate problems with no NPT and safety issues.
  • Communicate effectively with the Drilling Supervisor and Drilling Engineers to ensure that all technical specifications of the Drilling Program and Well Delivery Process are met.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of teamwork among the drilling staff, rig site personnel, service providers and other disciplines. • Conduct meetings through the term of the contracts, with service providers, to increase the efficiency of the service and help reduce or eliminate any potential problems.
  • Provide technical trouble shooting when problems occur on the drilling rig.
  • Perform periodic evaluations for the Drilling Supervisors. Drilling Engineers and rig site personnel.
  • Monitor drilling expenditures on a daily basis with the goal of drilling the most cost-effective wells possible.
  • Review equipment planning with Drilling Engineer, Drilling Supervisors and the Material & Logistics Coordinator to ensure timely equipment arrivals and to eliminate equipment overstocking.
  • Coordinate with the Drilling Engineer, Material & Logistics Coordinator & Drilling Supervisors on the timely arrival of drilling equipment and services on wellsite.
  • Ensure that wells are drilled and completed in a manner that meets the objectives of the Reservoir, Production, and Subsurface departments.
  • Encourage, champion and support HSE training and implementation of new procedures and guidelines.
  • Prepare monthly drilling operations reports.
  • Technical review of all BoD, NOOPs, drilling programs and final well reports. • Issue MOC following company policy in case operation has to be changed and deviated from planning.
  • Perform wellsite inspections to ensure that safety programs are conducted and monitored by the drilling contractors in a manner consistent with HSE policies in conjunction with the Drilling Supervisors’ site specific HSE plan.

Shall have required qualifications, experience and competencies:

  • Required to have a minimum of twenty (20) years of industry experience in an PSC Operator environment and a minimum of five (5) years of focused experience as a Drilling Superintendent.
  • Required to have a minimum of five (5) subsea exploration well drilling experience as a Drilling Superintendent, recently.
  • Experience working in Malaysia and ensuring compliance with PETRONAS, JV and Company requirements.
  • Experience with subsea well testing is preferred.
  • Experience managing a team with diverse culture.
  • Fluent in English language both Written & Spoken and preferably Bahasa Malaysia language
  • Preferably BEng in Mechanical, Petroleum, Chemical Engineering or similar
  • BOSIET and IWCF Well Control Certificate Course (Subsea Supervisor level)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and LANDMARK drilling modules
  • Self-motivated with strong leadership skills.
