The Subsea Inspector is responsible for quality surveillance, inspection, and compliance verification of Fiber Optic Cables (FOC), electrical and hydraulic flying leads, bottom flanges, and SSIV valve packages for a shallow-water offshore subsea pipeline development. The role ensures strict adherence to ITPs, project specifications, and international standards throughout fabrication, assembly, FAT/SAT activities, and offshore readiness preparations.

Key Responsibilities

ITP Compliance & Quality Surveillance

  • Implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for FOC, flying leads, bottom flanges, and SSIV equipment.
  • Conduct hold-point, witness-point, and surveillance inspections.
  • Verify full compliance with project specifications and vendor procedures.

FOC (Fiber Optic Cable) Inspection

  • Inspect fiber continuity, attenuation, and review OTDR test results.
  • Verify armor, sheathing, and bend-radius integrity.
  • Witness fiber terminations, splicing, sealing, and pressure testing activities.

Electrical & Hydraulic Flying Leads Inspection

  • Inspect fabrication of electrical (EFL) and hydraulic (HFL) flying leads.
  • Verify connector integrity, insulation resistance, electrical continuity, tube cleanliness, and pressure test results.
  • Review FAT documentation for both electrical and hydraulic performance.

Bottom Flanges & Connector Inspection

  • Inspect fabrication and machining of flanges, hubs, and subsea connectors.
  • Review dimensional checks, NDT results (VT, PT, UT, MT), coating application, and corrosion protection.
  • Confirm pressure rating, sealing surface accuracy, and material traceability.

SSIV Valve Package Inspection

  • Review SSIV design compliance with API 6A/17D requirements.
  • Inspect valve body, actuator, sealing components, and hydraulic/control tubing.
  • Witness FAT activities including valve cycling, leakage tests, HP/LP pressure testing, and ESD logic verification.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, NCRs, and punch lists.
  • Verify QA records, certificates, and MDR completeness.
  • Ensure full material traceability and documentation control.

Offshore Readiness Verification

  • Validate preservation, tagging, lifting points, and sea-fastening readiness.
  • Review ROV operability and interface fit-up.
  • Confirm equipment is fully prepared for mobilization and offshore installation.

Interface & Coordination

  • Coordinate with subsea engineering, QA/QC teams, vendors, fabrication yards, and installation contractors.
  • Communicate inspection findings and ensure close-out prior to release of equipment.

Technical Competence Requirements

  • Knowledge of subsea hardware including FOC, flying leads, SSIVs, hubs, and connectors.
  • Skilled in OTDR testing, electrical and hydraulic testing, and pressure verification.
  • Understanding of NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT) and coating inspection.
  • Familiarity with API 17E/F/D, API 6A, DNV, ISO 13628 standards.
  • Experience with SCM interfaces and subsea control systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Quality Engineering.
  • 5-15 years of experience in subsea/offshore inspection of FOC, flying leads, SSIVs, and subsea hardware.
  • NDT certifications (CSWIP, PCN, ASNT) preferred.
  • Experience with FAT, EFAT, SIT and offshore readiness verification.
