General Description

The senior Instrumentation Engineerwill play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise and support in instrumentation and control systems for onshore exploration and production (E&P) projects. Working on-site, the senior instrument engineer will be responsible for ensuring the efficient design, installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Duty and Responsible for

Instrumentation Design maintenance

  • Responsible for instrumentation and control Engineering including, but not limited to; instrumentation control devices, control valves, distributed control systems (DCS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), safety instrumented system, and F&G system.
  • Designing and specifying instrumentation systems and components: This involves determining the appropriate instruments, sensors, transmitters, control valves, and other devices required for measuring, controlling, and automating processes,
  • Develop and review instrumentation and control system designs, drawings, and specifications, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and applicable regulations,
  • Developing instrument datasheets, specifications, and selection criteria: This includes creating comprehensive documents that outline the technical requirements, performance characteristics, and functional specifications of the instruments,
  • Collaborating with process engineers and electrical engineers: Working closely with these professionals to ensure that the instrumentation design aligns with the process requirements and the instrumentation infrastructure,
  • Creating instrument loop diagrams and P&IDs: Developing detailed diagrams that illustrate the interconnections between instruments, control systems, and process equipment,
  • Conducting calculations and simulations: Performing calculations and simulations to determine instrument sizing, range, accuracy, and control requirements. This includes considerations such as process dynamics, response time, and safety factors,
  • Conduct periodic calibrations, performance assessments, and functional tests of instruments and control loops to maintain their optimal performance,
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to optimize instrument maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and troubleshooting procedures,
  • Analyze and resolve complex instrument-related issues, including malfunctions, failures, and reliability concerns,

Instrumentation Documentation

  • Creating detailed instrumentation documentation, guidelines and instrumentation specifications to ensure compliance with oil & gas industry best practices,
  • Ensuring that documentation accurately reflects the current state of instrumentation system power and is accessible to relevant personnel,
  • Updating documentation when instrumentation system or equipment undergo changes,
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and quality management systems,
  • Participating in audits or inspections to verify adherence to documentation and standards.

Equipment Selection and Installation

  • Collaborating with equipment vendors and suppliers to identify suitable machinery, tools, and technologies,
  • Evaluating equipment capabilities, performance criteria, and costs,
  • Participating in equipment trials, testing, and validation activities,
  • Overseeing the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment,
  • Providing input on equipment specifications and requirements during the procurement process.

Quality Assurance and Control

  • Developing quality control procedures and guidelines: Establishing processes and protocols to ensure the quality and reliability of the instrumentation systems.
  • Reviewing and verifying instrument specifications and drawings: Checking the accuracy and compliance of instrument specifications, datasheets, and drawings with project requirements.
  • Participating in quality audits, inspections, and testing: Conducting inspections, tests, and audits to verify that the instrumentation systems and components meet the required quality standards and comply with industry regulations.
  • Implementing corrective actions: Addressing non-conformities, deviations, and quality issues through the implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitoring and analyzing quality metrics: Collecting and analyzing data on instrumentation performance, reliability, and compliance to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to quality standards.

Safety and Compliance

  • Identifying and assessing potential safety hazards and risks associated with instrumentation system,
  • Developing and implementing safety protocols, procedures, and training to mitigate risks,
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality requirements,
  • Participating in safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations, recommending and implementing corrective actions as required,
  • Collaborating with EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) teams to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality assurance, and research and development (R&D),
  • Participating in project teams or interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement new instrumentation system or improvements of existed instrumentation system,
  • Communicating instrumentation changes, updates, and improvement initiatives to stakeholders,
  • Providing technical support and expertise to operations team,
  • Conducting training sessions and workshops to educate personnel on new instrumentation system, equipment, or procedures.

Continuous Improvement

  • Staying updated with advancements, trends, and best practices in instrumentation engineering,
  • Participating in professional development activities, such as conferences, seminars, or training programs,
  • Leading or participating in cross-functional teams dedicated to instrumentation improvement projects,
  • Encouraging and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

  • Providing training and guidance to operations personnel on new instrumentation system, equipment, or procedures,
  • Developing training materials, manuals, or job aids to facilitate knowledge transfer,
  • Conducting workshops or sessions to share best practices and lessons learned,
  • Mentoring and coaching junior instrumentation engineers or other team members,
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the project team, operations staff, and contractors to ensure the smooth operation of instrumentation systems,
  • Documenting and sharing knowledge through knowledge management systems or platforms
