Project Environment High-Voltage Substation / GIS Installation

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation, erection, assembly, and positioning of GIS equipment on site.
  • Ensure all installation activities are performed in accordance with Siemens Energy procedures, approved drawings, method statements, specifications, and HSE requirements.
  • Coordinate and supervise GIS installation teams, subcontractors, and site interfaces.
  • Monitor and control mechanical assembly activities, including:
    • GIS compartment assembly and inspection
    • Alignment and positioning
    • Bolt torqueing and tightening procedures
    • Gas handling and filling activities
    • Compartment integrity checks
    • Cleanliness and contamination-control requirements
    • Installation of associated mechanical components
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, protection, and cleanliness of GIS equipment throughout installation.
  • Monitor daily installation progress against project schedules and report any delays or technical issues.
  • Identify installation problems and coordinate appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure installation activities comply with approved Quality Control Plans (QCP/ITP), inspection procedures, and project specifications.
  • Review and ensure completion of installation records, checklists, inspection reports, punch lists, and other quality documentation.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams to ensure GIS installation is complete and ready for testing and commissioning.
  • Support inspection and handover activities with the client, consultant, OEM representatives, and project management team.
  • Liaise with the client, project management team, subcontractors, and relevant local authorities where required.
  • Promote and enforce a strong HSE culture across all GIS installation activities.
  • Participate in site meetings, progress reviews, technical discussions, and coordination meetings as required.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in high-voltage electrical substation projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience supervising GIS installation, preferably on 220 kV and/or 400 kV projects.
  • Proven experience with Siemens Energy GIS, preferably 8DQ1 and/or 8DN9 systems.
  • Valid Siemens Energy GIS installation certification or recognised OEM GIS installation training is mandatory.
  • Strong practical knowledge of GIS installation, erection, assembly, and inspection procedures.
  • Good understanding of GIS mechanical assembly, gas handling, compartment checks, torqueing, alignment, and cleanliness requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control, inspection procedures, documentation, and HSE requirements for high-voltage substation projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise multidisciplinary installation teams and coordinate subcontractors and site interfaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, installation manuals, method statements, specifications, and inspection documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and site coordination skills.
  • Experience working directly with clients, consultants, OEM representatives, and commissioning teams is highly desirable.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English - mandatory.
  • Arabic - an advantage.

Availability

  • Must be available to commence the assignment from January 2027.
  • Willingness to work on international/high-voltage substation project sites as required.
