FPSO Telecom Lead

Role Overview

The FPSO Telecom Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating all Telecommunications engineering activities during the detailed engineering and procurement phases of a major FPSO development project. The assignment may be extended through construction, commissioning, and start-up.

The role ensures that all telecommunications systems—including the process plant, accommodation facilities, and airstrip—are designed, procured, installed, and commissioned in accordance with Company specifications, international standards, project requirements, and industry best practices.

The Telecom Lead acts as the Company's focal point for the discipline, coordinating EPC Contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful project execution within schedule, budget, and HSE objectives. F042A_SD Venus FPSO Telecom Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Telecommunications Engineering

  • Lead all Telecommunications engineering activities throughout the detailed engineering phase.
  • Supervise EPC Contractor, subcontractor, and vendor engineering activities.
  • Ensure telecommunications systems comply with Company specifications, applicable regulations, and international standards.
  • Promote proven technologies and best engineering practices to optimize reliability, maintainability, operability, and safety.
  • Ensure engineering activities are delivered within project schedule and budget.

Detailed Design Review:

  • Review and comment on engineering deliverables including:
    • Telecom equipment specifications
    • Calculation notes
    • Design briefs
    • Datasheets
    • Termination diagrams
    • Material Take-Offs (MTO)
    • Troubleshooting diagrams
    • Hook-up drawings
    • Layouts
    • Cable routing drawings
    • Certificates
  • Ensure all engineering documentation complies with project procedures and technical requirements.
  • Verify implementation of approved design modifications by the EPC Contractor.

Telecom Architecture & System Integration:

  • Review the overall telecommunications architecture.
  • Ensure integration with all engineering disciplines.
  • Verify that telecommunications systems satisfy project-specific operational, safety, and maintenance requirements.
  • Promote compliance with industry best practices for offshore communication systems.

Contractor & Vendor Management:

  • Supervise contractor engineering performance and monitor progress.
  • Identify and report contractor technical issues or schedule deviations to the Engineering Manager.
  • Participate in technical meetings and weekly discipline coordination meetings.
  • Monitor the Telecom Integrator subcontractor throughout engineering and procurement.
  • Participate in vendor meetings and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as required.
  • Support technical bid evaluations and vendor package reviews.

Construction & Commissioning Support:

  • Support construction activities related to telecommunications systems.
  • Participate in construction follow-up and site inspections.
  • Report discipline-related construction anomalies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to system completion and punch list clearance.

Reporting & Interface Management:

  • Prepare:
    • Weekly engineering reports
    • Monthly progress reports
    • Ad hoc technical reports as requested
  • Participate in Company coordination meetings.
  • Ensure telecommunications requirements are properly integrated with:
    • Process
    • Electrical
    • Instrumentation & Control
    • Technical Safety
    • Mechanical
    • HVAC
    • Marine Systems
HSE Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with all Company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure telecommunications systems are designed and installed in accordance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Support safe construction and commissioning activities.
  • Report unsafe conditions and participate in continuous HSE improvement initiatives.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in:
    • Telecommunications Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronic Engineering
    • Equivalent Engineering discipline
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Telecommunications Engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Previous experience on FPSO projects is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Detailed engineering
    • Vendor package management
    • EPC project execution
    • Interface management
    • Offshore telecommunications systems
  • Experience with construction support and commissioning activities is highly desirable.
