General Description

The senior mechanical engineer will play a crucial role in providing technical expertise and support in mechanical engineering for onshore exploration and production (E&P) projects. Working on-site, the senior mechanical engineer will be responsible for ensuring the efficient design, maintenance, construction and operation of mechanical systems and equipment, contributing to the overall success of the project .

Duty and Responsible for

Design and Analysis

  • Responsible for Mechanical Engineering including, but not limited to; static equipment, piping, HVAC and rotating equipment (compressors, pumps etc.). Responsibilities also include working within the GBRS Management of Change system and acting as senior mechanical engineer for Mechanical related projects at GBRS sites (as assigned by your line manager) to complete and close out site projects and modification work.
  • Designing mechanical components, systems, and equipment using computer-aided design (CAD) software,
  • Conducting engineering calculations and simulations to ensure the functionality, performance, and safety of designs,
  • Developing detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation,
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical design considerations into the overall project planning and execution.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate technical proposals to optimize mechanical systems and equipment selection.

Manufacturing and Production

  • Overseeing manufacturing processes, optimizing production layouts, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Selecting and sourcing materials, components, and equipment for manufacturing operations.
  • Developing and implementing quality control measures to ensure product consistency and compliance with specifications.
  • Troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions to maintain production efficiency.

Product Development

  • Developing new products or improving existing ones by conducting research, conceptualization, and prototyping.
  • Evaluating design feasibility, considering factors such as manufacturability, cost, and market demands.
  • Conducting product testing and analysis to verify performance, durability, and compliance with standards.
  • Collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure efficient production and assembly processes.

Maintenance and Reliability

  • Developing maintenance strategies and schedules to ensure the reliability and uptime of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Conducting inspections, performance evaluations, and condition monitoring of mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical failures or issues, implementing preventive maintenance measures.
  • Recommending and implementing equipment upgrades or replacements to improve performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to optimize equipment maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and troubleshooting procedures.

Mechanical Documentation

  • Creating detailed mechanical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, guidelines and mechanical specifications to ensure compliance with oil & gas industry best practices,
  • Ensuring that documentation accurately reflects the current state of mechanical system and is accessible to relevant personnel,
  • Updating documentation when mechanical system or equipment undergo changes,
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and quality management systems,
  • Participating in audits or inspections to verify adherence to documentation and standards.

Quality Assurance and Control

  • Developing quality control procedures and guidelines: Establishing comprehensive processes and protocols to ensure that mechanical systems meet quality standards and comply with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Reviewing and verifying mechanical specifications and drawings: Thoroughly checking mechanical specifications, drawings, and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Participating in quality audits and inspections: Conducting regular inspections, tests, and audits to verify that mechanical systems and components adhere to quality standards, safety requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Implementing corrective actions: Addressing any non-conformities, deficiencies, or deviations identified through inspections or quality assessments by implementing appropriate corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Monitoring and analyzing quality metrics: Collecting and analyzing data on mechanical system performance, reliability, and compliance to identify areas for improvement, track quality trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Safety and Compliance

  • Identifying and assessing potential safety hazards and risks associated with mechanical system,
  • Developing and implementing safety protocols, procedures, and training to mitigate risks,
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality requirements,
  • Participating in safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations, recommending and implementing corrective actions as required,
  • Collaborating with EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) teams to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality assurance, and research and development (R&D),
  • Participating in project teams or interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement new mechanical system or improvements of existed mechanical system
  • Communicating mechanical changes, updates, and improvement initiatives to stakeholders,
  • Providing technical support and expertise to operations team,
  • Conducting training sessions and workshops to educate personnel on new mechanical system, equipment, or procedures.

Continuous Improvement

  • Staying updated with advancements, trends, and best practices in mechanical engineering,
  • Participating in professional development activities, such as conferences, seminars, or training programs,
  • Leading or participating in cross-functional teams dedicated to mechanical improvement projects,
  • Encouraging and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

  • Providing training and guidance to operations personnel on new mechanical system, equipment, or procedures,
  • Developing training materials, manuals, or job aids to facilitate knowledge transfer,
  • Conducting workshops or sessions to share best practices and lessons learned,
  • Mentoring and coaching junior mechanical engineers or other team members,
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the project team, operations staff, and contractors to ensure the smooth operation of mechanical systems,
  • Documenting and sharing knowledge through knowledge management systems or platforms.

  • Progress Monitoring Track and report the progress of mechanical engineering activities, including design reviews, procurement status, construction milestones, and quality control activities, to ensure project deliverables are achieved within the defined timeline and budget.
  • Collaborating with Engineering head of section to ensure timely completion of process engineering deliverables,
  • Participating in project meetings and providing updates on process-related activities and challenges,
  • Provide technical inputs for progress reports, technical proposals, and Assists in preparation of regular Engineering Progress Reports for management.
