Reservoir Engineer

Duration/Location

• Starting date 01/12/2025

Duration 12 Months - Depending on project progress

Renewable Yes

Location Cape Town, South Africa (Company Office)

Status Residential

Context & Environment

As part of an offshore deepwater exploration campaign in Namibia, the project focuses on turbidite reservoirs. The Reservoir Engineer will play a critical role in transforming the existing static geological model into a dynamic reservoir model. This model will be vital for understanding reservoir behavior and optimizing hydrocarbon recovery strategies. While the position is based in Cape Town, the project is part of ongoing deepwater exploration activities in Namibia.

Missions/Service Dimensions

The Reservoir Engineer will be integrated into the subsurface team and will work primarily on the development of deepwater turbidite reservoirs, with the following responsibilities

• Transform static models into dynamic models Lead the effort to convert the current static geological model into a dynamic reservoir model using Petrel RE, incorporating geophysical, geological, and well data to simulate reservoir performance.

Develop and maintain reservoir models Build and continuously update 3D static and dynamic models that integrate data from various sources to accurately represent the reservoir.

Perform flow simulations Use numerical flow models to simulate fluid dynamics within the reservoir, optimize production forecasts, and support decision-making for reservoir management.

Analyze reservoir uncertainties Perform sensitivity analyses to assess the impact of uncertainties on production forecasts and reservoir behavior.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams Work closely with geoscientists, drilling engineers, and production teams to align reservoir modeling with field development strategies and well planning.

History matching Use actual production data to refine the reservoir model and improve its predictability, ensuring accurate forecasts.

Reporting Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate model results, forecasts, and recommendations to key stakeholders and project management.

Qualifications & Experience Required

• Engineering degree Master’s degree in Reservoir Engineering or equivalent.

Experience 10-15 years of experience in reservoir engineering, with at least 5 years working on deepwater projects and turbidite reservoirs.

Software proficiency Advanced experience with Petrel RE is essential, including model building, reservoir simulation, and history matching.

Deepwater expertise Proven experience in deepwater field development and reservoir management, specifically within turbidite reservoirs.

Languages Fluent in English, with strong communication skills for preparing reports and conducting presentations.

Collaboration skills Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, supporting geoscientists, drilling engineers, and other stakeholders.
