Key Responsibilities

Process Safety Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the process safety management strategy aligned with Company standards
  • Act as technical authority for process safety and technical safety engineering
  • Lead and develop process safety teams and systems of work
  • Support the continuous improvement of the Company HSES Management System

Risk Assessment & Safety Studies

  • Ensure and/or facilitate key risk studies including:
    • HAZID
    • ENVID
    • HAZOP
    • QRA
    • LOPA
    • Fire & Explosion analysis
  • Ensure all risk study actions are tracked and implemented throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support Major Accident Event (MAE) and Major Accident to the Environment (MATTE) risk management

Safety in Design & Technical Assurance

  • Ensure all safety-in-design deliverables are defined, reviewed, and approved
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (API, IEC, NFPA, ISO, etc.)
  • Ensure development and maintenance of safety cases in line with Company and international standards
  • Support technical safety assurance processes across projects and operations

Asset Integrity & Operational Safety

  • Support development and implementation of:
    • Mechanical integrity programs (pressure vessels, piping, tanks, rotating equipment)
    • Corrosion management strategies
    • Inspection and maintenance programs
  • Provide guidance on:
    • Control systems, alarms, and safety interlocks
    • Functional safety lifecycle management
    • Instrumentation reliability in operational environments

Project & Operations Support

  • Provide technical safety input to tenders and project development phases
  • Support pre-start-up safety reviews (PSSR) and commissioning activities
  • Ensure operational readiness and safety compliance
  • Interface with facilities, operations, and engineering teams

Contractor & Interface Management

  • Support contract management related to technical safety:
    • Technical queries (TQ)
    • Non-conformances (NCR)
    • Variations (VOR)
    • Document reviews
    • Cost and schedule considerations
  • Ensure alignment between contractors and Company safety expectations

Audits, Investigations & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or participate in:
    • Process safety audits
    • Barrier health assessments
    • Incident and accident investigations
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and implemented
  • Support development and implementation of HSES training programs
HSE Responsibilities
  • Ensure all activities comply with Company HSES policies and regulatory requirements
  • Promote a strong process safety culture across all assets and projects
  • Ensure proactive risk identification and mitigation
Ethics & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Company ethics and compliance policies
  • Complete all required compliance and training programs
Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or related discipline)
  • Master’s degree or professional certifications are an advantage (NEBOSH, CCPSC, etc.)

Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in Oil & Gas
  • Minimum 5 years in process safety or technical safety roles
  • Experience as:
    • Process Safety Manager
    • Technical Safety Lead / Engineer
  • Experience on major development projects (concept selection to execution)
Technical Skills
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Process safety engineering
    • Major hazard risk management
    • Safety in design
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Risk methodologies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, Bowtie)
    • Functional safety systems (SIS)
    • Industry standards and regulations
  • Familiarity with safety modelling tools:
    • PHAST
    • FLACS
    • FRED
    • QRA event tree modelling
  • Knowledge of:
    • Onshore and offshore facilities
    • FPSOs, platforms, subsea systems
  • HSES Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 31000)
Operational Capabilities
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle:
    • Design
    • Construction
    • Installation
    • Commissioning
    • Operations
  • Experience in SIMOPS and complex operational environments
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary interfaces
Soft Skills
  • Strong leadership and team management
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in multicultural and cross-functional environments
  • Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills
Languages
  • Spanish: Mandatory (professional level)
  • English: Advanced level required
