Location Qatar

Project Environment High-Voltage Substation / GIS

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise commissioning activities for high-voltage GIS substations.
  • Coordinate and support the installation, erection, assembly, testing, and commissioning of GIS equipment.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with Siemens Energy procedures, approved drawings, technical specifications, method statements, commissioning procedures, and HSE requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate commissioning teams, subcontractors, installation personnel, and site interfaces.
  • Coordinate closely with Siemens Energy/OEM representatives, the client, consultant, project management team, and other contractors.
  • Monitor and verify GIS mechanical and electrical readiness prior to commissioning.
  • Review GIS installation and commissioning activities, including:
    • Mechanical assembly and alignment
    • Torqueing and tightening
    • GIS compartment inspections
    • Gas handling, evacuation, filling, and gas-quality checks
    • Cleanliness and contamination-control requirements
    • Electrical connections and associated equipment
    • Interlocking and control functions
  • Coordinate and supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning tests in accordance with approved procedures and OEM requirements.
  • Review test results, identify technical issues, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Ensure commissioning records, test sheets, inspection reports, checklists, punch lists, and handover documentation are properly completed and maintained.
  • Monitor commissioning progress against the project schedule and provide regular progress updates.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical problems encountered during testing and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with installation teams to ensure all outstanding works and punch-list items are closed before testing.
  • Coordinate with the client and relevant stakeholders to obtain approvals, inspections, and readiness for energisation.
  • Support final handover of the GIS system and associated substation equipment to the client.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project quality, safety, environmental, and HSE requirements.
  • Liaise with KAHRAMAA, project management, consultants, Siemens Energy, and relevant local authorities when required.

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in high-voltage electrical substation projects.
  • Previous experience on KAHRAMAA projects in Qatar is mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in GIS installation, testing, commissioning, or supervision, preferably on 220 kV and/or 400 kV substations.
  • Proven experience with Siemens Energy GIS systems, preferably 8DQ1 and/or 8DN9.
  • Siemens Energy certification issued by Siemens Energy, Berlin is mandatory.
  • Valid and relevant Siemens Energy GIS installation/commissioning certification or recognised OEM training is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage GIS commissioning procedures, testing requirements, and OEM standards.
  • Strong understanding of GIS assembly, mechanical inspection, gas handling, compartment checks, torqueing, alignment, and cleanliness requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control, inspection, testing, commissioning documentation, and HSE requirements.
  • Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and site interfaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, technical specifications, OEM manuals, method statements, and commissioning procedures.
  • Previous experience coordinating with clients, consultants, OEM representatives, and utility authorities is highly desirable.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English - mandatory.
  • Arabic - an advantage.

Availability

  • Available to commence the assignment from January 2027.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Qatar for the duration of the project.
