Electrical Engineer – Italy

Location Lucca, Italy

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and optimize power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, and emergency backup power.
  • Ensure all electrical systems comply with NRC, IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot plant electrical systems to prevent failures and ensure system uptime.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols, testing procedures, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Work closely with instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for reactor monitoring, automation, and fail-safe mechanisms.
  • Conduct fault analysis, power flow studies, and protective relaying coordination.
  • Support plant modifications, retrofits, and system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (reactor, mechanical, civil, safety engineers) to integrate electrical components.
  • Assist in regulatory audits, inspections, and technical documentation.
  • Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in electrical systems engineering, preferably in nuclear, power generation, or industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of power generation, distribution, and system reliability.
  • Proficient in tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, automation, and digital/analog control systems.
  • Knowledge of nuclear industry safety, compliance frameworks, and emergency systems.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Clear and effective communicator with collaborative team experience.
  • Detail-oriented with a high commitment to nuclear safety and engineering excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE (Professional Engineer) license or relevant IEEE/NRC certifications.
  • Experience working in nuclear plant commissioning, MMR/SMR development, or regulatory engagement.
  • Prior experience in IPO-stage or fast-scaling startups.
  • Written and oral fluency in Italian.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
