UFR Material/Welding/NDE Engineer

Role Overview

The Material, Welding & NDE Engineer is responsible for all Materials, Welding, and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) activities related to the Umbilicals, Flowlines and Risers (UFR) package throughout the project lifecycle, from engineering and qualification through procurement, fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover to operations.

The role ensures compliance with Company specifications, applicable international codes, industry standards, and project quality requirements while providing technical leadership across all Material, Welding, and NDE activities. 

Key Responsibilities

Materials, Welding & NDE Engineering

  • Lead all Materials, Welding, and NDE engineering activities for the UFR package.
  • Ensure technical consistency throughout design, qualification, procurement, fabrication, construction, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with Company specifications, international standards, and industry best practices.
  • Identify, develop, and manage qualification programs related to materials, welding technologies, and NDE methodologies.

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Coordinate engineering studies related to:
    • Materials Engineering
    • Welding Engineering
    • Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
    • QA/QC
    • Risk Analysis
  • Review and validate contractor engineering documentation, technical queries, and deviation requests.
  • Supervise detailed design activities related to Materials, Welding, and NDE.
  • Support qualification of new or non-standard materials, welding processes, and inspection technologies.

Contractor & Interface Management

  • Act as the Company’s technical focal point for all Materials, Welding, and NDE matters.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between engineering disciplines and contractors.
  • Support preparation of tender documentation and technical evaluations.
  • Review contractors’ execution plans and schedules.
  • Participate in supplier qualification, technical audits, and assessment of welding and NDE service providers.

Construction & Quality Oversight

  • Ensure fabrication, construction, testing, qualification, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities comply with project specifications.
  • Ensure quality requirements are fully integrated throughout project execution.
  • Review technical documentation and identify deviations that could impact fabrication, installation, or operational integrity.
  • Support the Engineering Manager on all Materials, Welding, and NDE-related technical matters.

Documentation & Project Support

  • Develop, issue, and maintain technical documentation related to the UFR package.
  • Contribute to key project management documents including:
    • Statement of Requirements (SOR)
    • Field Development Plan (FDP)
    • Project Execution Plan (PEP)
    • Project Quality Plan (PQP)
    • Risk Registers
  • Participate in project technical reviews and assurance processes.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to project close-out activities.

HSE & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong HSE leadership and promote safe working practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Company HSE requirements and applicable project procedures.
  • Promote the Company’s Code of Conduct and Anti-Corruption Policy.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all technical and project documentation.
  • Ensure HSE and Quality requirements are properly addressed in all engineering deliverables.
Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering and execution phases of major offshore Oil & Gas projects.
  • Strong experience with:
    • UFR (Umbilicals, Flowlines & Risers) systems
    • Materials Engineering
    • Welding Engineering
    • Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
    • Fabrication and construction activities
  • Experience working with EPC contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience on major offshore development projects is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
