Role Overview

The Offshore SURF Night Shift Company Representative is responsible for supervising and coordinating offshore installation activities during night shifts onboard construction and installation vessels supporting a major deepwater development project offshore Suriname.

Acting as the Company's representative during night operations, the position ensures that all Subsea Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF) activities are performed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved installation procedures, project specifications and H3SEQ requirements.

The role involves supervising offshore construction activities, monitoring operational performance, coordinating SIMOPS/COMOPS activities and ensuring effective communication between night and day shifts.

The Night Shift Company Representative reports directly to the RSES-D (Main Company Representative) onboard the installation vessel and supports the safe and efficient execution of the offshore installation campaign.

Key Responsibilities

Offshore SURF Installation Supervision:

  • Supervise all offshore installation activities performed during night shifts onboard construction and installation vessels.
  • Ensure execution of approved installation procedures and compliance with Company technical and HSE requirements.
  • Monitor offshore operations involving:
    • J-Lay and S-Lay operations.
    • Rigid pipeline installation.
    • Flexible pipeline and umbilical installation.
    • Riser installation and pull-in/pull-out operations.
    • Subsea structure installation.
    • Marine Construction Vessel (MCV) connections and testing.
    • Subsea ROV operations.
    • Offshore pre-commissioning and testing.
  • Ensure offshore activities are executed in accordance with the approved schedule.
  • Identify operational deviations and report them to the RSES-D and onshore management.

Installation Readiness & Operational Preparation:

  • Participate in the preparation and review of offshore installation procedures.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from previous installation campaigns.
  • Verify operational readiness of personnel, equipment and installation systems.
  • Ensure implementation of approved offshore procedures.
  • Verify that any modifications are managed through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Ensure relevant readiness certificates and checklists are prepared and signed when required, including:
    • Ready for Transportation.
    • Ready for Installation.
    • Ready for Commissioning.
  • Coordinate with Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS) and Company representatives for certification and approvals.

Marine Operations & Logistics:

  • Supervise offshore logistics activities, including:
    • Supply and barge operations.
    • Equipment transfers.
    • Deck operations.
    • Lifting operations.
    • Load-out activities.
    • Equipment handling and preservation.
  • Ensure proper coordination of marine operations and equipment availability.
  • Monitor offshore installation logistics to minimize operational delays.
  • Maintain accurate traceability records and inventories of subsea-installed equipment.
  • Identify requirements for additional technical assistance from Contractors and equipment manufacturers.

SIMOPS / COMOPS Coordination:

  • Coordinate simultaneous offshore operations involving multiple vessels and Contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with approved SIMOPS and COMOPS procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication with other Company offshore representatives, including FPSO site representatives.
  • Identify potential operational conflicts and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Ensure proper communication and handover between day and night shifts.
  • Coordinate with vessel teams to conduct HIRA Level 2 (Hazard Identification Risk Analysis) prior to operations.

HSE Leadership & Emergency Response:

  • Promote exemplary HSE leadership during night shift operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Company H3SEQ requirements and statutory regulations.
  • Verify implementation of the HSE Bridging Document between Company and Installation Contractors.
  • Act as the Company's night shift focal point during emergency situations.
  • Ensure emergency response activities are conducted in accordance with the approved Emergency Response Plan.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections and risk assessments.
  • Promote safe working practices and ethical conduct throughout offshore operations.

Contractor Management & Quality Control:

  • Monitor Installation Contractor performance during night shift activities.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and approved procedures.
  • Identify and report non-conformities to the RSES-D.
  • Follow up implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor quality control activities related to offshore installation and testing.
  • Support the resolution of technical, operational and logistical issues.

Reporting & Shift Handover:

  • Prepare and submit daily operational reports to the RSES-D.
  • Review and comment on Daily Progress Reports issued by the Installation Contractor.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of offshore installation progress and operational performance.
  • Identify schedule deviations and escalate them for onshore consideration and approval.
  • Maintain effective communication between offshore and onshore project teams.
  • Ensure proper shift handover and continuity of offshore operations.
HSE Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate exemplary H3SEQ leadership throughout offshore operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Company HSE policies, procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture onboard installation vessels.
  • Participate in safety awareness initiatives and HSE improvement programs.
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of risk assessments and mitigation measures.
  • Support emergency response preparedness and offshore crisis management.
  • Promote Company Ethics, Code of Conduct and Anti-Corruption principles.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Offshore Construction or Installation Engineering background preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, particularly in SURF installation and offshore construction.
  • Extensive experience supervising offshore installation operations.
  • Previous experience on major offshore EPCI projects.
  • Strong construction background with multidisciplinary technical knowledge.
  • Proven experience with SIMOPS and offshore HSE management.
  • Familiarity with Company technical standards and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Surinamese offshore marine and environmental regulations.
