Mechanical Engineer specializing in FEA (Finite Element Analysis)

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Design & Validation:

  • Validate the mechanical design of BESS products (containers, modules, BMMs, or base components) to ensure compliance with internal and external customer specifications.
  • Support mechanical design teams during part design and experimental testing phases (shock, vibration, etc.).

Mechanical Calculations & Simulations

  • Perform advanced numerical calculations, including:
    • Static calculations (self-weight, snow loads, wind, etc.)
    • Modal analyses
    • Maritime and road transport analyses (random vibrations)
    • Shock analyses (SRC or time-domain)
    • Seismic analyses (spectral-modal analysis)
  • Ensure coherence between calculated results, design choices, and technical specifications.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Produce all required technical documentation, such as:
    • Calculation notes
    • Technical presentations
    • Design justification documents (DJD, etc.)
  • Clearly justify product designs based on calculation results and applicable standards.

Project & Cross-Functional Support

  • Lead and facilitate technical meetings to:
    • Drive project progress
    • Report status and risks at the appropriate level
  • Co-lead experimental tests required for the mechanical characterization of battery-related components.
  • Provide technical support as the mechanical reference to:
    • Quality
    • Purchasing
    • Industrialization
    • Project teams
    • Production
  • Manage design evolutions and deviation requests.

Standards & Expertise

  • Ensure compliance with SAFT design rules, applicable standards, and system specifications.
  • Maintain and develop a high level of expertise in numerical modeling and simulation techniques.

Profile & Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree (Bac +5) in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design of:
    • Welded mechanical structures
    • Bolted assemblies

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of bolted and welded assemblies:
    • Dimensioning
    • Assembly type selection
  • Advanced skills in finite element analysis using:
    • Abaqus
    • Simcenter
  • Solid background in:
    • Strength of Materials (RDM)
    • Static calculations (linear and non-linear)
    • Dynamic calculations
  • Good knowledge of design standards:
    • Eurocodes
    • ISO, NF, and international standards
  • Experience with shock and vibration testing is a plus

Languages

  • Technical English: reading, writing, and speaking
