FPSO Technical Safety Engineer

Role Overview

The FPSO Technical Safety Engineer supports the Technical Safety Lead in coordinating all Safety Engineering activities throughout the detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of a major FPSO development.

The role provides technical guidance to the EPC Contractor, ensuring that all safety engineering deliverables comply with Company specifications, applicable regulations, classification society requirements, and international standards. The position covers both Topsides and Hull facilities and plays a key role in integrating safety into the overall FPSO design. F125_SD Venus FPSO Technical Safety.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Safety Engineering

  • Support the Technical Safety Lead in coordinating the Safety Engineering scope throughout the project.
  • Review and supervise all safety engineering deliverables during the detailed design phase.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Company Specifications
    • Statement of Requirements (SOR)
    • Basic Engineering documentation
    • Applicable international codes and standards
    • Classification Society requirements
  • Ensure all deliverables are completed within project schedule and budget.

Detailed Design Review:

  • Review and comment on:
    • Safety calculation notes
    • Plot plans
    • Equipment layouts
    • Safety logic diagrams
    • Fire & Gas philosophies
    • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) philosophies
    • Personnel protection systems
    • Safety documentation
  • Follow up contractor comments until satisfactory implementation.

Safety Studies & Risk Assessments:

  • Coordinate and monitor safety studies including:
    • HAZID
    • HAZOP
    • Constructability Reviews
    • Technical Reviews
    • Safety Audits
    • Workshops
  • Coordinate the development of the Technological Risk Assessment (TRA).
  • Ensure project risks to personnel, environment and assets are reduced to ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) levels.
  • Ensure recommendations from safety studies are effectively implemented.

Design Safety Integration:

  • Ensure safety is fully integrated into the FPSO design.
  • Verify that personnel protection measures are incorporated throughout the engineering phase.
  • Promote design solutions that improve:
    • Personnel safety
    • Operability
    • Maintainability
    • Emergency response capability

Interface Management:

  • Coordinate technical interfaces with:
    • Process Engineering
    • Structural Engineering
    • HVAC
    • Hull Engineering
    • SURF Engineering
    • Other engineering disciplines
  • Support multidisciplinary decision-making to achieve the optimum balance between safety, operability and project constraints.

Contractor Management:

  • Participate in discipline meetings with EPC Contractor representatives.
  • Review technical queries related to Technical Safety.
  • Provide technical guidance and support issue resolution.
  • Monitor engineering progress and report technical concerns to the Technical Safety Lead.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

  • Report engineering progress, technical issues, quality concerns, and risks.
  • Propose corrective and mitigation measures where required.
  • Support the FPSO Engineering Manager and Technical Safety Lead on all discipline-related matters.
  • Ensure lessons learned from previous projects are incorporated into the design.
  • Contribute to project close-out reports and continuous improvement initiatives.
HSE Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with Company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all Technical Safety activities comply with applicable regulations and project standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout engineering and construction.
  • Support the implementation of Company HSE objectives across the project.
Qualifications

Education

  • Engineering Degree in:
    • Safety Engineering
    • Process Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Equivalent Engineering discipline
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Technical Safety / HSE Design.
  • Previous FPSO project experience is mandatory.
  • Strong experience during detailed engineering and EPC execution phases.
  • Experience working with international engineering contractors.
Technical Skills
  • Technical Safety Engineering.
  • HAZID / HAZOP Facilitation.
