Role Overview

The FPSO Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating all rotating equipment engineering activities throughout the detailed engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases of a major FPSO development.

The role provides technical leadership to the EPC Contractor, ensuring that all rotating equipment complies with Company specifications, project requirements, international standards, schedule, budget, and HSE objectives. The position also oversees vendor package execution, multidisciplinary interfaces, and supports construction and commissioning activities to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Rotating Equipment Engineering:

  • Lead and coordinate all rotating equipment engineering activities during the detailed engineering and procurement phases.
  • Supervise EPC Contractor engineering activities related to rotating equipment.
  • Ensure consistency, operability, maintainability, flexibility, and optimization of rotating equipment design.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Company Specifications
    • Statement of Requirements (SOR)
    • Contract documentation
    • International codes and standards
    • Project schedule, budget, and HSE requirements.

Detailed Design Review:

  • Review and comment on engineering deliverables including:
    • P&IDs
    • Rotating equipment package documentation
    • Instrumentation interfaces
    • Material selection
    • Equipment sizing
    • Hook-up drawings
    • Layouts
    • Cabling documentation
  • Ensure comments are properly addressed by the EPC Contractor.
  • Minimize engineering changes through proactive technical support.

Vendor & Procurement Management:

  • Supervise rotating equipment purchase order execution.
  • Monitor vendor engineering activities and manufacturing progress.
  • Participate in:
    • Technical bid evaluations
    • Vendor meetings
    • Pre-FATs
    • Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
    • Integrated FATs (iFATs)
  • Ensure timely resolution of vendor technical issues.
  • Review and respond to technical queries, deviations, and waiver requests.

Interface Management:

  • Coordinate technical interfaces with:
    • Process Engineering
    • Technical Safety
    • ICSS
    • HVAC
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Other project packages
  • Promote multidisciplinary coordination to optimize design, schedule, operability, and cost.

Construction & Commissioning Support:

  • Review EPC construction deliverables related to rotating equipment.
  • Monitor construction activities and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Verify that EPC Contractor provides complete as-built documentation.
  • Participate in construction follow-up and site inspections.
  • Report safety observations and propose corrective actions.
  • Prepare for commissioning and support commissioning teams during start-up activities.

Technical Leadership:

  • Act as the Company's focal point for rotating equipment engineering.
  • Challenge the EPC Contractor to improve technical solutions and optimize costs.
  • Monitor engineering progress, quality, planning, interfaces, and risks.
  • Report technical issues and mitigation measures to the Engineering Manager.
  • Support technical reviews, change management, and lessons learned activities.
HSE Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with Company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure rotating equipment design fully complies with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, technical audits, and safety assessments.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout engineering, construction, and commissioning activities.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Rotating Equipment Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Equivalent Engineering discipline
Experience
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in rotating equipment engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of FPSO experience or equivalent offshore production facilities.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Detailed Engineering
    • EPC execution
    • Vendor package management
    • FAT participation
    • Multidisciplinary interface management
    • Construction and commissioning support
