FPSO ICSS Instrumentation Engineer

Role Overview

The FPSO ICSS & Instrument Engineer supports the ICSS & Instrument Lead in coordinating all Instrumentation and Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS) engineering activities throughout the detailed engineering and procurement phases of a major FPSO development project.

The role ensures that the EPC Contractor delivers safe, optimized, and compliant ICSS and Instrumentation designs while supporting procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities. The position requires close coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of all instrumentation and control systems.

Key Responsibilities

ICSS & Instrumentation Engineering

  • Support the ICSS & Instrument Lead in coordinating all discipline activities during detailed engineering and procurement.
  • Supervise and monitor EPC Contractor engineering activities related to ICSS and Instrumentation.
  • Ensure design consistency, operability, maintainability, flexibility, and optimization of all Instrumentation and ICSS systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Company specifications, Statement of Requirements (SOR), project documentation, applicable standards, schedule, budget, and HSE requirements.
  • Provide technical support to pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up teams.

Detailed Design Review:

  • Review and comment on engineering deliverables including:
    • P&IDs
    • Instrument Data Sheets
    • Package Instrumentation
    • Field Instrumentation
    • Material Selection
    • Instrument Sizing
    • Hook-up Drawings
    • Layouts
    • Cabling Design
    • Installation Drawings
  • Ensure timely implementation of review comments by the EPC Contractor.
  • Review technical queries and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Ensure all design modifications are properly implemented and documented.

Vendor & Procurement Support:

  • Supervise execution of the ICSS purchase order by the EPC Contractor.
  • Monitor ICSS vendor activities throughout procurement.
  • Participate in:
    • Technical bid evaluations
    • Vendor meetings
    • Pre-FATs
    • FATs
    • Integrated FATs (iFATs)
  • Witness testing of field instrumentation and package equipment when required.
  • Ensure EPC Contractor delivers complete and accurate as-built documentation after FAT completion.

Interface Management:

  • Coordinate interfaces between Instrumentation & ICSS and:
    • Process Engineering
    • Technical Safety
    • HVAC
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Other FPSO work packages
  • Facilitate technical meetings with the EPC Contractor to monitor engineering progress and resolve technical issues.
  • Promote design optimization and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining technical integrity.

Construction & Commissioning Support:

  • Participate in construction follow-up activities.
  • Monitor field installation activities related to Instrumentation and ICSS.
  • Report construction anomalies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support commissioning teams during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up phases.
  • Ensure installations comply with project specifications, local regulations, and international standards.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

  • Report engineering progress, technical issues, quality concerns, and schedule impacts to the ICSS & Instrument Lead.
  • Recommend mitigation measures whenever deviations are identified.
  • Contribute to project lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare regular discipline activity reports.
HSE Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with all Company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Instrumentation and ICSS activities comply with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Support safe construction, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Report unsafe conditions and contribute to continuous HSE improvement.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Chartered Engineer or Engineering Degree specializing in:
    • Instrumentation
    • Automation
    • Process Control
    • ICSS
    • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
    • Fire & Gas Systems
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Instrumentation and ICSS engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Extensive experience with field instrumentation and offshore process control systems.
  • Strong understanding of Oil & Gas operating philosophies.
  • Previous FPSO or offshore EPC project experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
