Senior Drilling Engineer

Main Activities

Reporting to the DRILLING department and under the supervision of the Drilling Manager, you will support drilling operations and be in charge of engineering future drilling campaigns.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Prepare drilling programs for future wells
  • Provide sound drilling engineering methods and procedures for use in solving assigned

assigned drilling problems

  • Provide technical support during drilling operations on all types of wells (gas, oil,

deviated or horizontal, conventional or extended reach (ERD) wells.) These wells include

exploration wells and all types of well intervention, including re-entry work.

  • Analyze drilling data and the technical performance of drilling operations, to

determine the need for or benefit of studies, recommendations and/or modifications to improve rig unit costs and operational efficiency.

  • Prepare and write Drilling SOPs - Standard Operating Practices - to standardize drilling operations.
  • Preparation of AFEs
  • Drafting AARs, After Action Reviews, following completion of operations
  • Prepare UERs (Unplanned Event Reports) following operational problems
  • Analyze feedback and monitor technology to improve performance
  • Write technical notes specific to drilling operations
  • Monitor well costs and monthly CAPEX balances in conjunction with the Finance department
  • Make regular visits to our drilling sites to familiarize yourself with our operations
  • Participate in technical evaluations of tender responses

Provide training and technical support to junior engineers and ensure continued compliance with regional and global standards, practices and procedures.

Qualifications & experience

  • Engineering degree preferably in petroleum, mechanical or chemical engineering
  • More than 10 years' experience as a drilling engineer or site manager in the conventional oil industry or with a major international oil operator
  • At least 1 cumulative year spent on a rig as a drilling engineer or drilling site supervisor/manager, or in an equivalent position
  • Very good knowledge of the oil industry
  • Good analytical and writing skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Rigor and organization
  • In possession of IWCF Level 4 Certificate.
