[Global Mobility] Consultant’s experience at the heart of Altea Energy’s strategy

Are you an energy expert seeking international assignments? Discover Altea Energy’s three commitments regarding immigration and travel logistics to offer you the best possible experience.

Manel Azabou, Operations Support since 2021, reveals the keys of Altea Energy’s Global Mobility department, which facilitates the integration of consultants and deploys them in record time on client sites around the world.

A department dedicated to the global mobility of energy consultants

When a candidate is selected for an assignment and completes all stages of the recruitment process, they sign a contract with Altea Energy and officially join its consultants’ community.

The recruiter connects them with the Global Mobility team, which manages their onboarding on the consultant portal, handles immigration formalities, and arranges logistics to mobilize them to the client site on the desired date and in optimal conditions.

“Our department’s missions are diverse. Our main goal is to deploy the consultant to the client’s project on time, adhering to the agreement terms, and offering the best possible experience to everyone.

To achieve this, we manage the onboarding and training process for our consultant portal. We also handle travel logistics, as well as the immigration and document legalization formalities in the operating country, enabling them to obtain their work permits.

Our department works across all services at Altea Energy (sales, recruitment, finance), supporting our international subsidiaries and maintaining constant communication with consultants and clients. We also oversee external providers dedicated to document legalization, flight bookings, and hotel reservations.

We are the consultant’s main point of contact and are committed to supporting them throughout their contract with Altea Energy, from onboarding to the end of their assignment,” explains Manel Azabou.

Managing immigration procedures

One key focus of the Global Mobility department is handling the immigration logistics for its community of expatriate consultants.

“We provide a comprehensive immigration service, which includes obtaining business visas, work visas, work permits, and residency permits in the operating countries, even for expatriates from regions with complex requirements.

To ensure timely delivery, we take care of verifying the consultant’s documents (diplomas, work certificates, training certificates, etc.) and legalizing the documents required by local authorities,” adds Manel Azabou.

Indeed, local authorities are stringent about document legalization before issuing work permits for expatriates.

“In the energy industry, hiring expatriates is often tied to the technical requirements of a project or the consultant’s years of experience. We need to authenticate the consultant’s professional background by legalizing some documents.

The first step is to authenticate the document and its signatory in the country of issue. For a diploma, it’s necessary to obtain a “certified true copy,” usually from a local town hall or notary office, followed by its legalization. Some documents require intermediate steps, such as going through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, or the Chamber of Commerce.

The second step involves going to the Embassy of the country where the documents will be used, in the country of issue, to legalize the document.

Finally, the procedure is completed when the legalized documents are submitted to the relevant authorities in the operating country where the consultant will work.

We work hand in hand with our local teams in Algeria, Tunisia, and France, as well as with a carefully selected network of trusted partners, to carry out all the formalities with local authorities and personally deliver the documents. Without their presence on-site and knowledge of the administrative requirements, we wouldn’t be able to secure work permits for our consultants in such a short time.

Depending on the complexity of the case and the consultant’s nationality, mobilization procedures can take between two to six weeks. It is our department’s priority, as this part of the legalization process is the most time-consuming. The authorities are sovereign, and we are dependent on the availability and responsiveness of numerous stakeholders.

Our good relationships, responsiveness, and network of partners are key to successfully completing our mission and obtaining the necessary permits within the timelines agreed upon with our clients. What matters most to us, despite the challenges we face and the increasingly complex administrative requirements year after year, is seeing the growing satisfaction of our consultants and clients. This is the greatest reward we can receive.” says Manel Azabou.

Managing transportation logistics

Another equally exciting task is that the Global Mobility department handles all transportation logistics for its community of consultants.

“Once the consultant’s immigration formalities are settled, we manage their deployment to the operating country and to the client’s site. To put it simply, we handle all their travel logistics for the mission: managing their journey from point A (home country where they live) to point B (operating country where they will work), adapting to the constraints and requirements of all parties, handling cancellations, and managing their tickets throughout the rotations during the mission.

We emphasize professionalism at every step. Our service includes booking flights, trains, taxis, hotels – essentially all the logistical services the consultant might need to travel as safely and smoothly as possible, in compliance with their contract and the deadlines agreed upon with the client.

For consultants deployed in Algeria, our relex agents, based in Algiers and Hassi Messaoud, ensure the smooth handling of airport transfers and the local support of our consultants.

We are committed to pampering our consultants and ensuring their satisfaction. They often tell us we’re like their mothers. It makes me smile, but it’s true! We solve their problems, adapt to their needs, and listen to them. Ultimately, we develop such a close relationship that it becomes almost familial over time,” concludes Manel Azabou.
