Ouargla, January 15, 2025 – As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and its commitment to develop local talents, Altea Energy recently contributed to the development of the cutting-edge FabLab at the University of Kasdi Merbah Ouargla (UKMO) by providing essential equipment. This initiative has been spearheaded by Total Energies Algeria since June 2024.
This laboratory, located within the university’s Artificial Intelligence Center, serves as a hub for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It provides students, project leaders, and startups with state-of-the-art technology to bring their ideas to life.
Concrete support for local innovation
On January 15, 2025, during an official visit, the delegation from the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education expressed their satisfaction with this initiative, in the presence of Mr. Tahar HELILAT, Rector of the University of Ouargla, and Mr. Mehdi KADRI, Vice-Rector in Charge of External Affairs.
“To support the FabLab, Altea Energy has invested in the acquisition of essential equipment, providing students with the tools to develop practical skills and execute innovative projects: engraving machines for mechanical manufacturing, robotics and electronics equipment, 3D printers for additive manufacturing and prototyping, and laser engravers for precision work”, explained El Hachemi OUKIL, Country Manager Algeria at Altea Energy.
Representatives of Altea Energy at the event were Hakim BETTAYEB, HR Business Partner, and Badreddine HADJ SAID, External Consultant. Their presence reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting students and investing in high-impact social projects in Algeria.
Ambitious goals for students and the region
The FabLab is part of a broader mission to:
- Foster innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among students,
- Provide a collaborative space for training, prototyping, and experimentation,
- Create employment and partnership opportunities in the Ouargla region,
- Develop practical skills in digital manufacturing, robotics, and electronics.
With activities such as training workshops, hackathons, and innovation competitions, the FabLab is designed to serve as a genuine incubator for young talents.
A long-lasting partnership with the University of Ouargla
Since 2021, Altea Energy has actively collaborated with the University of Kasdi Merbah as part of an agreement aimed at enhancing student employability, promoting scientific research, and supporting innovative academic initiatives.
