Operations Geologist

Location: Paramaribo, Suriname (with offshore assignments as required)

Contract Type: Rotational Assignment

Rotation: 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off

Start Date: July 2026 (target)

Duration: 2 years renewable

Role Overview

The Operations Geologist is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and follow-up of geological operations associated with exploration and appraisal drilling campaigns.

The position serves as the primary operational interface between Subsurface, Asset, Drilling, HSE, and Data Acquisition teams, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective geological operations while maximizing data acquisition value and supporting well delivery objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Geological Operations Planning:

Pre-Well Activities

  • Actively participate in well planning processes including:
    • 3W Reviews
    • Well Site Operational Readiness (WSOR)
  • Integrate:
    • Offset well post-mortem analyses
    • Pore pressure studies
    • Fracture gradient studies
    • Shallow hazard assessments
    • Drill site assessment studies
  • Recommend mitigation measures to reduce geological and operational risks
  • Develop fit-for-purpose geological data acquisition programs balancing operational objectives, safety, and cost optimization
  • Support preparation of drilling budgets related to geological services and data acquisition
  • Participate in procurement and technical evaluation of geological service providers
  • Provide recommendations to technical management and project teams
  • Participate in Technical Committee Meetings (TCM) for operated and non-operated assets

Well Execution Support:

  • Coordinate and support Wellsite Geologists and geological service providers during drilling operations
  • Ensure contractual compliance of geological acquisition programs
  • Monitor quality, reliability, and relevance of acquired geological data
  • Challenge and optimize acquisition programs and associated costs
  • Implement and maintain Real-Time Technical Support solutions to facilitate collaborative decision-making
  • Coordinate geological operational activities between offshore and onshore teams
  • Ensure timely reporting to Subsurface, Exploration, Asset, and Management teams
  • Plan and coordinate petrophysical interpretation activities with technical support centers when required

Geological Data Management & Studies:

Post-Well Activities

  • Ensure proper handling, dispatch, and storage of:
    • Rock samples
    • Core material
    • Fluid samples
  • Ensure completion of:
    • Geological studies
    • Data interpretation
    • Final well evaluations
  • Ensure all well data is properly archived and stored according to Company standards and local regulations
  • Coordinate preparation and issuance of final well reports
  • Monitor service company performance and cost control
  • Provide feedback on service quality and operational efficiency

HSE Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support HSE culture within geological operations
  • Contribute to:
    • Pore pressure monitoring
    • Fracture pressure follow-up
    • Temperature monitoring
    • Real-time drilling surveillance
  • Ensure compliance with Company HSE requirements and local regulations
  • Participate in risk assessments and operational safety reviews
  • Promote safe execution of geological acquisition activities

Stakeholder & Contractor Management:

  • Act as the primary operational geological interface between:
    • Subsurface teams
    • Asset teams
    • Drilling teams
    • HSE departments
    • Service providers
  • Maintain effective relationships with:
    • Geological service companies
    • Local contractors
    • Regulatory authorities
    • Industry stakeholders
  • Support compliance with local regulations and country-specific operational requirements

Performance Improvement & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Promote regional knowledge sharing and best practices
  • Contribute to operational efficiency and cost reduction programs
  • Participate in technical workshops and operational reviews
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in:
    • Geology
    • Geosciences
    • Earth Sciences
    • Petroleum Geoscience
    • Related discipline
Experience
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in Operations Geology
  • Significant experience supporting:
    • Exploration wells
    • Appraisal wells
    • Offshore drilling operations
    • Deepwater environments preferred
  • Experience with:
    • Geological data acquisition
    • Formation evaluation
    • Well planning
    • Real-time drilling support
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Operations Geology
    • Formation Evaluation
    • Wellsite Geology
    • Pore Pressure & Fracture Gradient Analysis
    • Geological Risk Assessment
  • Experience with:
    • Mud Logging
    • Wireline Operations
