The Wellsite Geologist (WSG) is responsible for supervising all geological operations at the rig site in close collaboration with the Subsurface Team and offshore drilling personnel.

The role ensures the safe and efficient execution of geological data acquisition programs, supervises geoscience service companies, performs real-time quality control and interpretation of geological data, and contributes to safe, timely, and cost-effective drilling operations.

The Wellsite Geologist plays a key role in identifying drilling hazards, maintaining data integrity, supporting operational decision-making, and delivering high-quality geological information throughout the well lifecycle.

Geological Operations:

• Supervise all geological operations at the rig site.
• Monitor execution of geological acquisition programs.
• Ensure high-quality geological data acquisition throughout drilling operations.
• Maintain the integrity and security of all well data.
• Ensure compliance with Company geological standards and operational procedures.

Real-Time Geological Support:

• Monitor and interpret real-time geological data.
• Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of geological data acquisition.
• Contribute to real-time identification of drilling hazards including:
  • Formation overpressure
  • Mud losses
  • Gas shows
  • Swelling clays
  • Reservoir entry and exit
  • Other geological risks
• Support operational decisions through timely interpretation of drilling and geological information.

Supervision of Service Companies:

• Supervise contractors performing: Mud Logging
• MWD/LWD operations
• Wireline logging
• Coring operations
• Monitor personnel performance.
• Verify equipment reliability and readiness.
• Ensure availability of consumables and spare parts.
• Ensure services are performed in accordance with Company requirements.

Geological Interpretation:

• Supervise:
  • Cuttings descriptions
  • Hydrocarbon shows evaluation
  • Composite log preparation
  • Final geological reporting
• Participate in:
  • Well trajectory follow-up
  • Geosteering support
  • Reservoir characterization
  • Coring point selection
  • Logging program decisions
  • Casing point recommendations
  • TD determination
• Prepare and validate End of Well Reports.

Communication & Reporting:

• Maintain continuous communication between: Rig site personnel
• Subsurface teams
• Drilling supervisors
• Geoscience service companies
• Prepare accurate operational reports.
• Participate in daily and weekly operational meetings.
• Highlight geological information impacting drilling safety or efficiency.
• Support preparation and QA/QC of technical reports and operational feedback documentation.
• Coordinate dispatch of rock and fluid samples to onshore laboratories.

Operational Support:

• Participate in:
  • Pre-job meetings
  • Coring operations
  • Wireline logging operations
  • Well testing activities
• Work closely with all Company representatives on the rig to promote teamwork and operational excellence.

The Wellsite Geologist shall:

• Ensure compliance with Company HSE policies and procedures.
• Promote safe working practices throughout all geological operations.
• Participate actively in safety initiatives.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, and near misses.
• Support proactive risk identification and mitigation during drilling operations.

Education:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in: Geology
• Geosciences
• Earth Sciences
• Petroleum Geology
• Related discipline

• Minimum 10 years of Wellsite Geology experience.
• Extensive offshore drilling experience.
• Strong experience supervising:
  • Mud Logging
  • LWD/MWD
  • Wireline Logging
  • Coring operations
• Experience in deepwater exploration and development wells is highly desirable.
