Lead Subsea Completion Engineer

Location: Mexico City, Mexico

Working Arrangement: Onshore (with offshore interface during operations)

The Lead Subsea Completion Engineer will lead the engineering design, planning, and execution of upper and lower completion systems for a major offshore development project.

The position will serve as the technical authority for completion engineering, ensuring that all completion designs, operational strategies, and installation programs comply with Company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while maintaining the highest HSES standards.

The role will involve close collaboration with drilling, subsea, subsurface, and operations teams to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective completion operations.

• Lead the design and engineering of upper and lower completion systems for subsea wells.
• Ensure completion designs align with project requirements, well objectives, and operational constraints.
• Act as the project’s technical authority for completion engineering.
• Ensure all engineering work complies with Company standards and international industry practices.

Operations Preparation & Execution

• Prepare completion programs, operational procedures, well schematics, and execution plans.
• Monitor installation of well completions with rig teams and provide technical guidance during operations.
• Ensure completion operations are executed safely, efficiently, and according to the approved program.
• Support offshore completion and well intervention activities.

Technical Coordination

• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including:
  • Drilling Engineering
  • Subsurface teams
  • Subsea engineering
  • Production and operations teams
  • Supply chain and procurement
• Ensure completion design integrates properly with subsea production systems and field development plans.

Contractor & Vendor Management

• Manage technical interfaces with completion service providers and equipment suppliers.
• Support procurement and evaluation of completion-related services and equipment.
• Ensure delivery of reliable and innovative completion solutions.

Risk Management & Continuous Improvement

• Identify technical and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Participate in readiness reviews and operational risk assessments.
• Conduct post-job evaluations and capture lessons learned to improve future operations.

Team Development

• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior completion engineers.
• Promote knowledge transfer and competence development within the wells team.

• Ensure all activities comply with Company HSE procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a strong safety culture across engineering and operational teams.
• Participate in risk assessments and safety reviews for completion operations.

• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Company ethics and compliance policies.
• Complete all mandatory compliance training as required.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related discipline

• Minimum 20 years of experience in completion engineering and operations.
• Minimum 5 years specifically in subsea completion projects.
• Strong experience in offshore well completion operations.

Experience should include

• Upper and lower completion design
• Subsea completion systems and installation
• Subsea Christmas tree design and deployment
• Sand control completion systems including:
  • Open Hole Gravel Pack (OHGP)
  • Cased Hole Gravel Pack (CHGP)
  • High Rate Water Pack (HRWP)
  • Cased Hole Frac Pack (CHFP)
