Role Overview

The FPSO Topsides Structure / Weight Control Engineer is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and weight compliance of FPSO topside modules throughout the Engineering, Procurement, Supply, Construction, and Commissioning (EPSCC) phases of a major offshore development project.

The role supports the Topsides Structural Lead by monitoring structural engineering activities, validating weight control deliverables, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and maintaining the integrity of the overall weight management process throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Engineering & Weight Control

• Monitor and validate structural engineering activities performed by EPC Contractors and vendors.
• Ensure structural designs comply with Company specifications, applicable codes, and project requirements.
• Review structural analyses and engineering deliverables related to FPSO topside modules.
• Support the implementation of weight control procedures throughout project execution.

Weight Management

• Monitor the evolution of topside weight and Centre of Gravity (CoG) throughout the project.
• Ensure weight growth remains within approved marine and structural limits.
• Review weight reports, weight registers, and associated engineering documentation.
• Validate contractor weight estimates and monitor compliance with project weight budgets.
• Support optimization initiatives to minimize weight growth while maintaining design integrity.

Engineering Coordination

• Assist the Topsides Structural Lead in coordinating multidisciplinary technical interfaces.
• Ensure consistency between structural engineering, weight control activities, and other engineering disciplines.
• Participate in technical reviews and engineering coordination meetings.
• Support engineering decision-making related to structural modifications and weight impacts.

Design Review & Technical Support

• Participate in:
  • Design reviews
  • Technical clarification meetings
  • Engineering workshops
  • Interface meetings
• Review contractor technical queries and proposed design changes.
• Support the resolution of engineering anomalies and technical issues.
• Ensure traceability of structural and weight-related engineering decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

Contractor Management

• Monitor EPC Contractor performance related to structural engineering and weight control.
• Review engineering deliverables for quality, completeness, and compliance.
• Promote engineering optimization and cost-effective technical solutions.
• Support contractor progress monitoring and reporting activities.

Construction & Project Support

• Support construction teams on structural and weight-related technical matters.
• Participate in engineering support during fabrication and module integration.
• Contribute to project lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with preparation for commissioning and project handover.

HSE Responsibilities

• Promote and comply with Company HSE policies and procedures.
• Ensure structural engineering activities fully integrate HSE requirements.
• Promote safe engineering practices throughout all project phases.
• Support implementation of Company HSE objectives during engineering and construction.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Naval Architecture
  • Equivalent Engineering discipline

Experience

• Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Previous experience on FPSO, offshore platforms, or major offshore EPC projects.
