Project400 kV Gas-Insulated Busduct (GIB) - Interconnecting Feeders

Project Environment High-Voltage Substation

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation, erection, assembly, and positioning of 400 kV Gas-Insulated Busduct (GIB) for interconnecting feeders.
  • Ensure all GIB/GIS installation activities are carried out in accordance with Siemens Energy procedures, approved drawings, technical specifications, method statements, installation manuals, and HSE requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate GIS/GIB installation teams, subcontractors, and site interfaces.
  • Monitor the complete mechanical installation process, including:
    • GIB section assembly and installation
    • Alignment and positioning
    • Flange and joint assembly
    • Bolt tightening and torqueing
    • Compartment and enclosure inspections
    • Gas handling and filling activities
    • Sealing and connection checks
    • Cleanliness and contamination-control requirements
    • Installation of associated components and accessories
  • Ensure correct handling, storage, protection, and cleanliness of GIS/GIB components throughout the installation process.
  • Verify that installation activities comply with approved drawings, OEM requirements, inspection procedures, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate inspection activities with the Quality Control/QA team and client representatives.
  • Review installation progress against the project schedule and report delays, constraints, and technical issues.
  • Identify installation problems and coordinate appropriate corrective actions with the project and OEM teams.
  • Ensure all installation records, inspection checklists, test records, punch lists, and quality documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate closely with the commissioning team to ensure GIB/GIS systems are fully installed, inspected, and ready for testing and commissioning.
  • Support pre-commissioning activities and resolution of outstanding installation issues.
  • Participate in technical meetings, progress meetings, site coordination meetings, and inspections as required.
  • Liaise with the client, consultant, project management team, Siemens Energy/OEM representatives, subcontractors, and relevant local authorities when required.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all HSE requirements, including safe working practices, lifting operations, access control, cleanliness procedures, and site safety regulations.
  • Support final inspection, punch-list clearance, testing readiness, and handover of the installed GIB/GIS system.

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in high-voltage electrical substation projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience supervising GIS/GIB installation, preferably on 220 kV and/or 400 kV projects.
  • Proven experience with Siemens Energy GIS, preferably 8DQ1 and/or 8DN9.
  • Candidate must hold valid certification issued by Siemens Energy, Berlin - MANDATORY.
  • Valid Siemens Energy GIS/GIB installation certification or recognised OEM training is mandatory.
  • Proven experience with 400 kV Gas-Insulated Busduct (GIB) installations, preferably for interconnecting feeders.
  • Strong practical knowledge of GIS/GIB assembly, erection, installation, inspection, and site execution procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • GIS/GIB mechanical assembly
    • Gas handling and filling
    • Compartment inspections
    • Torqueing and tightening procedures
    • Alignment and positioning
    • Joint and sealing inspections
    • Cleanliness and contamination control
    • Quality control and inspection requirements
    • HSE and safe working practices
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, installation drawings, OEM manuals, method statements, specifications, and inspection documentation.
  • Proven ability to lead installation teams and coordinate subcontractors and multiple site interfaces.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English - mandatory.
  • Arabic - an advantage.

Availability

  • Available to commence the assignment from January 2027.
  • Willingness to work on-site for the duration of the project.
