Title Senior Electrolyser Package & Commissioning Specialist

Main responsibilities

  • Review electrolyser package engineering and vendor documentation.
  • Support the definition of commissioning and start-up strategy.
  • Review interfaces between:
    • electrolyser OEM
    • EPC contractor
    • electrical systems
    • process systems
    • control systems
    • hydrogen and ammonia facilities
  • Assess technical risks, operability, maintainability and constructability
  • Review commissioning procedures and operating philosophies
  • Support preparation for:
    • FAT / SAT
    • pre-commissioning
    • energisation
    • cold commissioning
    • hot commissioning
    • start-up
    • performance testing
  • Review turnover dossiers, punch-list strategy and completion requirements
  • Review DCS/ESD logic, interlocks and cause-and-effect charts
  • Support troubleshooting of technical issues during project execution or commissioning
  • Coordinate with client, Owner’s Engineer, EPC contractors and OEMs

Required technical skills

  • Strong experience with industrial water electrolysis
  • Alkaline electrolysis preferred
  • PEM electrolysis accepted
  • Good knowledge of electrolyser balance-of-plant:
    • rectifiers
    • transformers
    • cooling systems
    • demineralised water
    • gas-liquid separation
    • hydrogen drying and purification
    • hydrogen compression
    • control systems
  • Understanding of electrical integration:
    • MV/LV distribution
    • transformers
    • rectifiers
    • protection systems
    • harmonics
  • Understanding of:
    • DCS
    • ESD
    • interlocks
    • cause-and-effect
    • HAZOP / HAZID
    • process safety
    • hazardous-area requirements
  • Ability to review and challenge EPC and OEM technical documentation
  • Strong coordination and interface-management skills
  • Professional English is preferred for individual consultants. For a mobilised team, alternative language arrangements may be considered, provided that communication with the project team remains effective

Required project experience:

  • Green hydrogen projects using industrial electrolysers
  • Electrolyser packages at MW scale or above
  • Hydrogen, green ammonia, e-fuels or large industrial process projects
  • EPC, OEM or Owner’s Engineer environments
  • Engineering, package delivery, construction, commissioning or start-up phases

Mandatory experience:

Candidates must meet all these criteria:

  • Minimum 12 years’ industrial experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in hydrogen production, electrolysis, industrial gases or closely related process packages
  • Direct experience with an industrial electrolyser package
  • Experience beyond feasibility/basic engineering:
    • detailed engineering
    • vendor management
    • package delivery
    • construction
    • commissioning
    • start-up
    • performance testing
  • Experience working with OEMs and/or EPC contractors
  • Knowledge of electrolyser balance-of-plant and package interfaces
  • Proven experience in a senior technical role:
    • Package Engineer
    • Commissioning Lead
    • Start-up Engineer
    • Technical Authority
    • OEM Field Engineer
    • Senior Process Engineer
  • Available for an international Middle East assignment

Preferred experience:

  • Multi-MW or GW-scale hydrogen project
  • Alkaline electrolyser technology
  • Green ammonia / ammonia synthesis experience
  • Experience with renewable-power-to-hydrogen integration
  • Experience with variable-load electrolyser operation
  • Experience with Chinese, European or international electrolyser OEMs
  • Previous Middle East or mega-project experience
  • Owner’s Engineer or technical assurance experience

Profiles to exclude:

  • Hydrogen business-development or strategy profiles only
  • Academic/R&D profiles without industrial delivery experience
  • Fuel-cell specialists without electrolysis experience
  • Pure electrical commissioning profiles with no electrolyser/package exposure
  • Junior process engineers without site, package or commissioning responsibility
