Safety Manager at Freight Station

Job Description RichThe Safety Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of company safety programs to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. This role will also ensure training and awareness of employees, prevent accidents, and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.

Responsibilities

Develop and Implement Safety Policies

• Create and enforce safety protocols specific to freight handling operations, including loading, unloading, and storage.
• Ensure compliance with both local regulations and international safety standards.

Conduct Safety Inspections and Audits

• Perform regular inspections of the freight station to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
• Ensure that all machinery and equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes) are in proper working condition and used safely.

Incident Investigation and Reporting

• Lead investigations into any accidents, injuries, or safety breaches, ensuring thorough root cause analysis.
• Report safety incidents to relevant authorities and stakeholders, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Staff Training and Safety Education

• Organize and conduct safety training programs for all staff, including warehouse workers, equipment operators, and logistics personnel.
• Ensure that all employees understand and follow safe working practices, particularly when handling hazardous materials or operating heavy machinery.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Control

• Assess risks associated with freight station operations, including the handling of dangerous goods, movement of heavy cargo, and operational hazards.
• Implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure proper safety measures are in place.

Emergency Response Planning

• Develop and maintain emergency response plans for scenarios such as fires, spills, or equipment failure.
• Lead safety drills and ensure the workforce is prepared to handle emergencies effectively.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation

• Ensure the freight station complies with all relevant health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
• Maintain accurate safety records and documentation, including training logs, incident reports, and safety audits.

Collaboration with Operations Teams

• Work closely with the operations team to ensure that safety measures are integrated into daily workflows.
• Advise on the safe handling of materials, space management, and storage procedures to prevent accidents.

Safety Culture Promotion

• Promote a culture of safety within the workplace by encouraging employee involvement and feedback on safety-related issues.
• Lead by example, ensuring that safety is a priority across all levels of the freight station.
