The workover drilling foreman is an experienced worker with recognized training and in-depth knowledge of pulling and workover techniques. His mission is to assist the site manager and lead his team.

1. General Security

At the start of each shift, a safety meeting will be held and organized in turn by all the staff. This safety meeting will be written and recorded in the notebook provided for this purpose in order to have support for procedural changes.

1.1. Attitude of the Workover Drilling Foreman

  • Being responsible for the Assistant to the Workover Drilling Foreman, the eye-catchers, the pollsters.
  • Ensure that the instructions between positions take place and are recorded in writing in the notebook provided for this purpose.
  • Be an example and remind your team of the SAR method
  • Use the HSEQ documents made available by the client.
  • Pass on his professional knowledge to his entire team.

Familiarize yourself with the operational program to prepare and anticipate future operations.

1.2. Working license

The purposes of the work permit are:

  • To prepare an operation with all the entities of the construction site.
  • To analyze the risks before starting an operation.
  • To ensure that the work to be carried out does not interfere with other operations / work.
  • To make the people involved aware of their roles and responsibilities in carrying out the said operation.

Establish an internal work permit for all the following works (non-exhaustive list):

  • Rig up/Rig down.
  • Pressure relief and dismantling of the wellhead.
  • BOP testing.
  • Implementation of BOPs.
  • Installation of the power swivel.
  • Spinning and cutting of the maneuvering cable.
  • Hot work.
  • Fuel delivery.
  • Cleaning of a basin (with penetration).
  • Removal of the power swivel.
  • Removal of the BOP.
  • Installation of the wellhead.

Subcontracting work.

It is imperative to close each work permit at the end of the intervention

2. Work organization

Make a round at each start of shift and check in particular:

• Accumulation unit pressures (KOOMEY unit).

• The ponds.

• The positions of the choke manifold, kill line, choke line and stand pipe manifold valves.

• The pressure of the pulsation damper.

• Watering pump pistons.

• Sensor sheave clearance = 5/16".

• The shunting cable.

• Weights up and down.

• The position of the BOP stack.

• COM commissioning.

You must be present on the floor for maneuvers as soon as you arrive at the BHA. Ensure that the stacking and unstacking of the BHA is carried out smoothly.

REMINDER Maneuvering times are an important point for most of our customers. However the client has security standards which are as follows:

  • Time is saved by preparing the equipment for future operations and not by taking risks with raising and lowering the trim too quickly.
  • The BHAs will be prepared in advance so as not to waste time stacking.

The organization and distribution of tasks between the sounders guarantee an efficient and safe operation.

3. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of all our equipment is a guarantee for the smooth running of operations and therefore a good image of our company vis-à-vis our customers. It is everyone's responsibility to take care of the maintenance and the general and functional condition of our equipment.

3.1. Lubrication

A maintenance sheet for greasing is available in the Site Manager's office. The purpose of this sheet is to record the maintenance carried out on the equipment.

3.2. Regular precautions

  • Check that the kelly valve key is present and clearly identified on the work floor.
  • Report immediately to the Site Manager any anomaly(s) or non-operation of the crown-block to the basins via the attachment bridge and the shift manager's console.
  • Check the condition of the floor material every day: shims, safety collars, screw keys.
  • Respect the color code for lifting.
  • Make sure that a meticulous inspection of the mast and all its component parts (cables, bolts, pins, safety devices and hooking platform) is carried out after each tripping.
  • Check the suction strainers of the pumps when installing the device.

Before each operation, check the general condition of the operating tools (example: combs of the hydraulic wrench, combs of the wedges, handling lifts, etc.) as well as the compatibility between the threads of the internal plugs and the gasket used.

3.3. Circulation pumps

During long-term pumping operations, "listen" and inspect pumps regularly. Pay particular attention to abnormal noises (knocking and hissing) and ensure that the lubrication of the liners is carried out correctly.

Check the pre-charge pressure of the pulsation damper daily.

The minimum pressure read, pump stopped and purge open, must be 500 Psi. Otherwise, notify the Site Manager to rectify this degraded situation which could lead to deterioration of the pumps.

4. Report, readings and instructions

• Systematically complete the daily report at the end of each shift.

• Respect the written instructions of the Site Manager and the client. If in doubt, notify your supervisor.

• Never let a situation deteriorate.

• Measure OD, ID, lengths and number tubular stock lowered into the well, including that of the customer and service companies.

• Know and respect the instructions concerning the maximum and minimum tractions and poses during maneuvers. These instructions will be given by our customers and/or by the SMP supervisor according to the standards of our company or the customer company.

5. Well Safety

5.1. Alert

All alerts given by the safety instruments (lamp, siren, etc.) must result in a stoppage of the operations in progress.

Do not take any alarm lightly and in any case notify the Site Manager.

❖ For the H gas alert2S or CH4, the safety instructions are as follows:

· The Workover Drilling Foreman, the Assistant to the Workover Drilling Foreman and a Sounder secure the well and return to the assembly point.

· Close the annular BOP.

· Place the trim on wedges.

· Switch off all heat engines.

· Watch the direction of the wind using the windsock located on the roof of the Site Manager's office.

· Go to the assembly point opposite the direction of the wind.

· Proceed to the call of the personnel appearing on the attendance panel to ensure that all the personnel are present.

❖ For the fire alarm:

· The Workover Drilling Foreman / the Assistant driller / a Sounder secure the well and return to the assembly point.

· Secure the well using the following methods:

· Close the annular BOP. Place oh the trim on wedges. Install the kelly valve.

· Close the kelly valve.

· Stop the main engines.

· Watch the direction of the wind using the windsock located on the roof of the Site Manager's office.

· Go to the assembly point opposite the direction of the wind.

· Proceed to the call of the personnel appearing on the attendance panel to ensure that all the personnel are present.

The team members of 1timeintervention bring fire extinguishers to contain the fire.

5.2. Breakout Prevention

Coming exercises must be carried out monthly.

5.3. Equipment needed permanently on the floor

You must ensure that a kelly valve is present and operational on the floor.

6. General site maintenance

• Keep the work floor clean and tidy. Make sure and take the necessary steps to ensure that the access and passageways are never cluttered with equipment.

• Between each operation or different phases of the program, clean, unstack and store in its original place the equipment that will no longer be used.

• Clean and visually check the threads and bearing surfaces of all reductions or unstacking tubulars. Grease the threads of this equipment and protect them with screwed protectors. Notify the Site Manager if protectors are missing.

• Keep the control panel clean.

• Leave clean and tidy the place of work for the succession, the workshop and the work tools.

• Throw used parts, rags, used gloves, empty bottles in the trash. Selective sorting of waste if the means are made available on the site.

• Keep clean and tidy the changing rooms, the mess and the various equipment (microwave oven, fridges, etc.).

• Empty the trash cans once a day.
