General Description

The senior piping engineer will play a crucial role in providing technical expertise and support in piping engineering for onshore exploration and production (E&P) projects. Working on-site, the senior piping engineer will be responsible for ensuring the efficient design, installation, construction, maintenance, and integrity of piping systems, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Their primary role is to ensure the safe and efficient transport of fluids, gases, and other materials within a facility or infrastructure.

Duty and Responsible for

Design and Engineering

  • Responsible for piping Engineering including, but not limited to; piping, valves, support system. Responsibilities also include working within the GBRS Management of Change system and acting as senior piping engineer for piping related projects at GBRS sites (as assigned by your line manager) to complete and close out site projects and modification work.
  • Develop piping system layouts, isometric drawings, and 3D models using computer-aided design (CAD) software,
  • Perform hydraulic and stress analysis to determine pipe sizing, pressure ratings, and pipe supports,
  • Develop and review piping engineering designs, drawings, and specifications, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and applicable codes,
  • Prepare technical specifications, material selection, and piping standards for projects,
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate piping systems into overall facility designs,
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards during piping design and construction, addressing factors such as material selection, containment measures, and emergency response plans,
  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability: Incorporate energy-efficient design principles and sustainable practices into piping systems, such as insulation, heat recovery, and water conservation measures.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Support plant operations by analyzing and troubleshooting piping system issues, including leaks, flow disruptions, and equipment failures.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions to minimize disruptions and improve overall system performance.
  • Develop maintenance procedures, inspection plans, and corrosion mitigation strategies for existing piping systems.
  • Conduct periodic inspections and integrity assessments to identify and address potential risks or deterioration.

Piping Documentation

  • Creating detailed piping documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, guidelines and piping specifications to ensure compliance with oil & gas industry best practices,
  • Ensuring that documentation accurately reflects the current state of piping and is accessible to relevant personnel,
  • Updating documentation when piping or equipment undergo changes,
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and quality management systems,
  • Participating in audits or inspections to verify adherence to documentation and standards.

Equipment Selection and Installation

  • Collaborating with equipment vendors and suppliers to identify suitable machinery, tools, and technologies,
  • Evaluating equipment capabilities, performance criteria, and costs,
  • Participating in equipment trials, testing, and validation activities,
  • Overseeing the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment,
  • Providing input on equipment specifications and requirements during the procurement process.

Quality Control and Assurance

  • Develop and implement quality control procedures for piping fabrication, installation, and testing.
  • Conduct inspections and tests to verify compliance with design specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with quality control and assurance teams to resolve non-conformities and ensure the delivery of high-quality piping systems.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Stay updated with relevant industry codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3, API, and ISO, to ensure compliance in design, fabrication, and installation.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and ensure that piping designs and installations meet legal and safety requirements.

Safety and Compliance

  • Identifying and assessing potential safety hazards and risks associated with piping system,
  • Developing and implementing safety protocols, procedures, and training to mitigate risks,
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality requirements,
  • Participating in safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations, recommending and implementing corrective actions as required,
  • Collaborating with EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) teams to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality assurance, and research and development (R&D),
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers, to integrate piping systems with overall facility designs.
  • Communicating piping changes, updates, and improvement initiatives to stakeholders,
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to drafters,
  • Providing technical support and expertise to operations team,
  • Conducting training sessions and workshops to educate personnel on new piping equipment, or procedures.
  • Stay informed about new technologies, materials, and industry trends related to piping engineering.

Continuous Improvement

  • Staying updated with advancements, trends, and best practices in piping engineering,
  • Participating in professional development activities, such as conferences, seminars, or training programs,
  • Applying principles of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma,
  • Leading or participating in cross-functional teams dedicated to piping improvement projects,
  • Encouraging and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

  • Providing training and guidance to operations personnel on new piping equipment, or procedures,
  • Developing training materials, manuals, or job aids to facilitate knowledge transfer,
  • Conducting workshops or sessions to share best practices and lessons learned,
  • Mentoring and coaching junior piping engineers or other team members,
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the project team, operations staff, and contractors to ensure the smooth operation of piping systems,
  • Documenting and sharing knowledge through knowledge management systems or platforms.

A senior piping engineer may have additional responsibilities related to construction, quality, and materials. Here are some specific responsibilities in those areas


  • Construction Planning Collaborate with project teams to develop construction plans, schedules, and resource allocation for piping installation activities.
  • Material TakeoffPerform material takeoffs based on design drawings and specifications to determine the quantity and type of materials required for construction.
  • Construction Supervision Provide on-site supervision and guidance to construction crews during piping installation, ensuring compliance with design drawings, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Work Coordination Coordinate with other construction disciplines (e.g., civil, structural, mechanical) to ensure seamless integration of piping systems into the overall facility construction.
  • Equipment InstallationOversee the installation and alignment of equipment, such as pumps, valves, and pressure vessels, ensuring proper connection to the piping systems.
  • Welding and FabricationProvide expertise in welding procedures and inspection requirements, ensuring the quality and integrity of welded joints in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Testing and CommissioningCoordinate and participate in various tests, including pressure testing, leak testing, and functional testing, to verify the performance and integrity of the installed piping systems.
  • Supervises specific job at BRS CPF or well sites if necessary, during critical operations.
  • Establishes the report on specific jobs supervised in person at BRS CPF or well sites.

Quality Responsibilities

  • Quality PlanningDevelop quality plans and procedures specific to piping construction, including inspection and testing protocols, to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Quality InspectionsConduct inspections at various stages of piping construction, including material receipt, fabrication, assembly, and installation, to verify compliance with design specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Coordinate and oversee NDT activities, such as radiography, ultrasonic testing, and magnetic particle inspection, to detect and evaluate any defects or discontinuities in the piping systems.
  • Quality DocumentationGenerate and maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, test results, and certifications, to demonstrate compliance and facilitate project closeout.
  • Auditing and Compliance Perform internal audits to assess adherence to quality management systems and identify areas for improvement. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Non-Conformance Management Identify and address non-conformities during construction, working closely with construction teams and subcontractors to implement corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Supplier Quality Management Evaluate and qualify suppliers and subcontractors based on their quality management systems, performance, and ability to meet project requirements.
  • By assuming these construction and quality roles, a piping senior engineer ensures that the piping systems are constructed to the required standards, adhere to quality control measures, and meet safety regulations. They play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of the piping infrastructure throughout its lifecycle.

Project Management

  • Project Planning Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets for piping engineering activities, considering project objectives, timelines, resource allocation, and cost estimates.
  • Coordination and CommunicationCollaborate with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines, to ensure effective communication, coordination, and integration of piping activities within the overall project.
  • Procurement ManagementCoordinate with procurement teams to identify piping equipment and material requirements, issue inquiries to vendors, evaluate bids, and review technical documentation for compliance with project specifications.
  • Change Management Assess and manage changes in project scope, schedule, and specifications related to piping engineering, ensuring appropriate documentation, impact assessment, and coordination with relevant parties.
  • Risk ManagementIdentify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies related to piping design and construction, ensuring the safety, quality, and timely completion of the project.
  • Progress Monitoring Track and report the progress of piping engineering activities, including design reviews, procurement status, construction milestones, and quality control activities, to ensure project deliverables are achieved within the defined timeline and budget.
  • Collaborating with Engineering head of section to ensure timely completion of process engineering deliverables,
  • Participating in project meetings and providing updates on process-related activities and challenges,
  • Provide technical inputs for progress reports, technical proposals, and Assists in preparation of regular Engineering Progress Reports for management.

Material Management Responsibilities

  • Material Selection Collaborate with project teams, including process engineers and materials specialists, to determine the appropriate piping materials based on project requirements, process conditions, corrosion resistance, and cost considerations.
  • Material Specifications Develop material specifications and standards for piping components, including pipes, fittings, valves, flanges, gaskets, and supports, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry codes, and standards.
  • Procurement Planning Develop procurement plans, including material takeoffs, specifications, and delivery schedules, to ensure timely availability of piping materials for construction activities.
  • Vendor Evaluation Evaluate and select vendors and suppliers based on their capability to provide quality materials, adherence to specifications, competitive pricing, delivery reliability, and track record.
  • Material Requisitions Prepare detailed material requisitions, including quantities, specifications, and special requirements, and issue them to procurement teams for purchasing piping materials.
  • Bid EvaluationReview and evaluate bids received from vendors, considering factors such as material quality, pricing, compliance with specifications, and delivery terms, to make informed procurement decisions.
  • Material Inspection Collaborate with quality control teams to inspect and verify the quality and conformity of received piping materials, ensuring compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Inventory Management Establish and maintain proper inventory control procedures for piping materials, including storage, handling, and tracking of stock levels, to optimize availability and minimize wastage.
  • Material TraceabilityEnsure proper traceability of piping materials by maintaining accurate records of material certificates, test reports, and other documentation throughout the procurement and construction phases.
  • Material CoordinationCoordinate with construction teams to ensure timely availability of piping materials at the construction site, facilitating smooth execution of installation activities.
  • Material Discrepancy ManagementIdentify and resolve any discrepancies or non-conformities related to piping materials, collaborating with vendors, quality control teams, and project stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
  • Change Management Manage changes in material requirements, such as substitutions or modifications, during the project lifecycle, ensuring proper documentation, assessment of impact, and coordination with relevant parties.
