Safety Manager at Marshalling Yard

Job Description RichThe Safety Manager will oversee all safety operations in the Marshalling Yard. Key responsibilities include: conducting risk assessments, developing safety policies, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and implementing quality management procedures. A background in safety management and knowledge of relevant regulations is required.

Responsibilities

Operational Management

• Supervise daily operations Manage the flow of equipment and materials through the marshalling yard, ensuring that they are received, stored, and dispatched efficiently.
• Inventory control Ensure accurate tracking of all materials and equipment, coordinating with the supply chain team to prevent shortages or delays in the delivery to the project site.

Coordination and Logistics

• Transportation coordination Work closely with transport providers (trucks, barges, etc.) to arrange the timely dispatch of materials to the project site. This includes planning transport routes and scheduling to minimize delays and disruptions.
• Material handling Ensure that all equipment, especially heavy and oversized items, is handled properly, using the appropriate machinery (cranes, forklifts, etc.) to avoid damage or safety incidents.

Team Leadership

• Staff supervision Manage the workforce at the marshalling yard, including warehouse staff, equipment operators, and logistics coordinators. Ensure that all personnel are trained in safety protocols and operational procedures.
• Team coordination Ensure that all team members are aligned with project priorities and are working effectively to meet deadlines.

Safety and Compliance

• Implement safety protocols Oversee all safety procedures within the yard, ensuring compliance with local regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
• Conduct inspections Regularly inspect the yard to identify potential hazards, ensure the safe handling of materials, and monitor the use of protective equipment by staff.
• Incident management Handle any safety incidents, accidents, or material handling issues, ensuring proper reporting and corrective actions.

Communication and Reporting

• Liaison with stakeholders Act as the primary point of contact between the marshalling yard and the project management team, providing updates on material readiness, dispatch schedules, and any operational issues.
• Reporting Provide regular updates on yard activities, including inventory levels, safety incidents, and transport efficiency, to project leadership.

Continuous Improvement

• Optimize processes Identify opportunities for improving yard operations, including more efficient use of space, better transport planning, or the introduction of new technology to track materials.
• Problem-solving Address operational challenges as they arise, such as material delays, equipment breakdowns, or staff shortages, and implement solutions to keep the yard functioning smoothly.
