Well Engineer

The Well Completion Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of producing wells and wells on paper, including production optimization, well intervention, well abandonment (when required), well safety, well integrity (WI) compliance, and completion design and execution. The role ensures wells are completed, operated, and maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Completion Design

  • Design well completion programs to ensure optimal production performance.
  • Select appropriate equipment and technologies including casing, pressure control systems, sand control systems, hydraulic fracturing systems, and other completion tools.
  • Develop tailored completion solutions based on reservoir and well characteristics.

Operations Planning

  • Prepare detailed completion execution programs.
  • Coordinate with drilling, production, reservoir, and service teams to ensure required resources, equipment, and personnel are available.
  • Ensure operations are planned in accordance with safety, budget, and schedule requirements.

Operations Oversight

  • Supervise completion operations in the field.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor operational performance and ensure objectives and deadlines are achieved.
  • Troubleshoot operational challenges and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Production Optimization

  • Monitor producing wells and analyze performance data.
  • Recommend and implement optimization strategies to maximize well productivity.
  • Propose improvements or modifications to completion methods to enhance well performance.

Well Intervention & Abandonment

  • Plan and oversee well intervention activities to restore or enhance production.
  • Manage well abandonment operations when required, ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.

Well Safety & Integrity Compliance

  • Ensure all well activities comply with safety and well integrity standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with well operations.
  • Maintain documentation and compliance records.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Conduct detailed technical analysis of completion and production results.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of completion techniques and intervention activities.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting well performance and operational outcomes.
  • Identify improvement opportunities based on data analysis.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of well completion techniques and equipment.
  • Understanding of production systems, well integrity, and intervention practices.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to analyze technical data and interpret well performance results.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strategic thinking for performance optimization.

Project Management Skills

  • Experience in planning and coordinating field operations.
  • Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field.
  • Relevant experience in well completion, intervention, and production operations.
  • Field experience preferred.
