High Level Project Description

  • The Reservoir Engineer - Technical Advisor role will be responsible for providing high-quality technical work within the UTD-Subsurface team, contributing directly to company’s development and exploration assets worldwide. The role requires strong technical knowledge in integrated reservoir analysis, field development planning, opportunity evaluation, reserves assessment and long-term asset surveillance.
  • This job involves close collaboration with geoscientists, petrophysicists and production engineers, as well as participation in multidisciplinary teams to plan, execute and ensure the quality of reservoir engineering activities, in accordance with company's RCM Manual, the Safety and Environment Standards, and other recommended practices and techniques.
  • This role requires extensive experience in integrated reservoir characterization across a wide range of reservoir types and basins worldwide, together with demonstrated expertise in reserves evaluation under established industry standards.
  • This role implies the integration of subsurface and production data to analyse reservoir behaviour and support development strategies that optimize hydrocarbon recovery and maximize asset value. It involves working on technically complex reservoirs and requires the ability to anticipate reservoir management and development decisions several years ahead..

Project Duration

  • Time to complete a Reservoir engineering study or a Reservoir history matched model. Usually from 6 months to 1 year.

Reports To

  • Subsurface project coordinator or Reservoir engineering hub manager.

Job despcription

  • Assess reservoir performance and production behavior, including technically complex (e.g. fractured or carbonate) and mature reservoirs through integrated analysis of subsurface and production data, recommending actions to optimize recovery and ensure sustainable production.
  • Address complex technical challenges related to field development planning, incorporating subsurface characterization, reservoir performance and analogue fields insights.
  • Develop and review reservoir simulation models in accordance with company's RCM’s standards, integrating geological, petrophysical and production data to forecast production performance and identify opportunities to optimize recovery and support development decisions.
  • Define reservoir development and exploitation strategies, including well placement, reservoir management actions, workovers and surveillance programs throughout the asset life cycle.
  • Assess, quantify and communicate reservoir uncertainties and risks.
  • Recommend data acquisition programs to reduce subsurface uncertainty and support decision making.
  • Perform reserves estimation and classification in accordance with recognized industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ensure technical quality and consistency of subsurface studies, implementing QA/QC processes and ensuring compliance with company’s technical standards, planning requirements and reserves governance processes.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and mentoring to reservoir engineers, supporting multidisciplinary teams and Business Units in reservoir evaluation and development studies.
  • Promote technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the discipline, capturing lessons learned, disseminating best practices and supporting technical assurance and peer review processes.

Education / Qualifications

  • Master in science or engineering in petroleum engineering
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Reservoir Engineering software proficiency:
    • Petrel RE / Intersect. o Petroleum Experts suite (IPM).
    • Kappa Engineering suite.
  • Excellent written and oral command of the English language.
  • Basic understanding of the Spanish language is advantageous but not essential.

Required Behaviours & Skills

  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Extensive experience in reservoir engineering across diverse reservoir types, structural settings, and basins worldwide.
  • Strong expertise in dynamic reservoir modelling, production mechanisms, and field development planning to optimize hydrocarbon recovery and maximize asset value.
  • Proven experience in reserves evaluation in accordance with international industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Solid analytical skills with the ability to work effectively with uncertainty and apply statistical methods to support decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams and produce integrated subsurface evaluations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with technical specialists across disciplines.
  • Experience assessing and solving complex reservoir engineering challenges in high complexity fields (e.g., carbonates, fractured reservoirs, mature assets).
  • Capability and flexibility to adapt Repsol’s Reserves Characterization Manual (RM) standards across reservoir engineering workflows and technical assurance process.

Location

  • Main project location will be Madrid or company's Offices.
