High Level Project Description

The Petrophysicist - Technical Advisor role will be responsible for providing outstanding technical work within the UTD-Subsurface team, and direct contribution to Repsol’s exploration and development assets worldwide. The role will require active participation active participation on field development planning, evaluation of new opportunities and, exploration and appraisal projects among others.

  • An active interaction with other geoscientists, reservoir & production engineers and Geologists inside the company is expected.
  • The Technical Advisor, in this position will be part of multidisciplinary teams, coordinate the planning and implementation of geoscience technical activities, in accordance with Repsol’s RCM Manual, the Safety and Environment Standards, and other recommended practices and techniques.
  • The position requires extensive experience in petrophysical evaluation for integrated reservoir characterization studies around the world. Experience in reserves evaluation and audit in accordance with industry standards and regulations is also required

Project Duration

  • Time to complete a petrophysical evaluation or support for the building of a geomodel for a field. Usually from 3 months to 1 year.

  • Subsurface project coordinator or Petrophysical hub manager.

Job despcription

  • Produce the acquisition plan and log mitigation and petrophysical evaluations in accordance with the well's objectives. Prepare and validate the technical specifications in contracts related to their specialty.
  • Analyse information, identify and evaluate risks associated with the received data to ensure quality and compliance with objectives, and recommend mitigation measures as needed.
  • Carry out and guarantee quality controls and real-time communication of well log information according to a defined acquisition plan, including evaluations and processing by third parties to ensure the quality of assessments.
  • Plan routine and Special Core Analysis (SCAL) programs and integrate analysis with wireline logs.
  • Perform porosity, permeability, and saturation height modelling.
  • Model the range of uncertainties in petrophysical parameters used for resource estimation.
  • Conduct necessary petrophysical evaluations based on rock properties and characteristics, integrating all available information and employing best practices in both open-hole and cased-hole wells for effective decision-making. Assess the degree of uncertainty in evaluations to determine associated risks.
  • Manage project databases to guarantee proper corporate information storage for both original and interpreted data.
  • Support and collaborate with reservoir geologists, geophysicists, and engineers in reservoir characterization, ensuring interdisciplinary integration and sharing expertise as needed.
  • Periodically generate and prepare required information for volumetric evaluations to support economic estimates for projects in accordance with the reservoir life cycle.
  • Define mitigation measures, risks, and uncertainties related to project information and petrophysical evaluations to enable accurate economic assessments.
  • Compile and transfer lessons learned, best practices, and key indicators using available knowledge management methodologies.
  • Strong expertise in planning wellbore data acquisition, quality control, and interpretation of petrophysical data using both deterministic and stochastic analyses; familiarity with industry standard software such as Techlog is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated studies utilizing logs, cores, geological, geophysical, and production data, including RCA and SCAL analysis for building capillary pressure and saturation height profiles.

Education / Qualifications

  • Engineering or Geoscience Degree required.
  • At least 15 years of experience in petrophysical evaluation of clastic and carbonate reservoirs in exploration and development wells.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Petrophysical software proficiency: o Teclog software proficiency o Additional software knowledge: IP or Geolog.
  • Excellent written and oral command of the English language.
  • Basic understanding of the Spanish language is advantageous but not essential
  • The prospective candidate must be able to work in the US without sponsorship

Required Behaviours & Skills

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to provide recommendations on minimizing formation damage and designing reservoir stimulation programs.
  • Prepare and present professional-quality presentation materials to technical peers and management.
  • Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective presentation abilities.
  • Proactive and able to work collaboratively as a team player in a multidisciplinary environment, engaging effectively with other team members.
  • The prospective candidate must have proven experience working in assets in the Gulf of America fields (shallow and deep-water reservoirs). Also, experience working in unconventional reservoirs such as the Eagle Ford and Marcellus, as well as asset development and exploration in Alaska.
  • Must be flexible to rapidly adapt the corporate RCM standards for Petrophysical characterization and its integration on 3D modelling.

Location

  • Main project location will be Madrid or Compnay's Offices.
