Location: Lucca, Italy
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical systems and components including piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and reactor cooling systems.
Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CREO.
Perform material selection, stress and thermal analysis, and FEA for high-temperature, high-radiation environments.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and regulatory agencies to ensure designs are safe, functional, and compliant.
Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
Ensure all designs meet ASME BPVC, NRC, and ANSI standards for nuclear applications.
Maintain design documentation, including specifications, reports, BOMs, and revision control.
Participate in PLM processes and support product updates, retrofits, and lifecycle management.
Incorporate feedback from testing, manufacturing, and licensing reviews to refine designs.
Engage in engineering reviews focused on mechanical loads, tribology, seals, and welding considerations.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
2-5 years of experience in mechanical system design in nuclear, energy, or industrial sectors.
Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CREO.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material behavior, and manufacturing processes.
Hands-on experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA); CFD is a plus.
Working knowledge of ASME BPVC, NRC regulations, and ANSI standards.
Familiarity with reactor components, cooling systems, and radiation shielding.
Experience in tribology, sealing solutions, and welding design.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communicator and team collaborator.
High attention to detail and strong commitment to nuclear safety and design accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple design projects with strict deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
Professional certifications: CSWP, AutoCAD Certification, or similar.
Experience working with IPO-stage or public companies.
Written and oral fluency in Italian and English.
Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and influence design direction across the organization.
