Location: Lucca, Italy

Reports To: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components including piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and reactor cooling systems.
  • Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CREO.
  • Perform material selection, stress and thermal analysis, and FEA for high-temperature, high-radiation environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and regulatory agencies to ensure designs are safe, functional, and compliant.
  • Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure all designs meet ASME BPVC, NRC, and ANSI standards for nuclear applications.
  • Maintain design documentation, including specifications, reports, BOMs, and revision control.
  • Participate in PLM processes and support product updates, retrofits, and lifecycle management.
  • Incorporate feedback from testing, manufacturing, and licensing reviews to refine designs.
  • Engage in engineering reviews focused on mechanical loads, tribology, seals, and welding considerations.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in mechanical system design in nuclear, energy, or industrial sectors.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CREO.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material behavior, and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA); CFD is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of ASME BPVC, NRC regulations, and ANSI standards.
  • Familiarity with reactor components, cooling systems, and radiation shielding.
  • Experience in tribology, sealing solutions, and welding design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator and team collaborator.
  • High attention to detail and strong commitment to nuclear safety and design accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple design projects with strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Professional certifications: CSWP, AutoCAD Certification, or similar.
  • Experience working with IPO-stage or public companies.
  • Written and oral fluency in Italian and English.
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and influence design direction across the organization.
