Context
As part of major marine and inland infrastructure projects, we are looking for a Lead Design Engineer to take ownership of technical design and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This role sits in a high-demand engineering environment with strong exposure to clients and clear expectations on quality, delivery, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of a full project or a major part of a marine infrastructure project
- Act as the technical lead and supervise engineers and CAD designers
- Coordinate multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, hydraulic, etc.) within an integrated design approach
- Act as the technical interface with clients and external stakeholders
- Perform and validate design calculations in line with European standards (Eurocodes and local regulations)
- Deliver and oversee engineering studies, including:
- conceptual design
- basic design
- tender documentation
- detailed design
- Work on infrastructure such as:
- ports
- locks
- quay walls
- jetties
- breakwaters and dikes
- marine foundations
- Ensure quality, timelines, and overall performance of project deliverables
- Support tendering activities from a technical standpoint
- Stay up to date with industry developments and propose optimized and innovative design solutions
Education
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Preferred specialization: construction, offshore, dredging, or infrastructure
Experience
- Strong experience in structural and/or geotechnical calculations
- Experience in infrastructure design (marine experience is a plus, not mandatory)
- Previous experience as a technical lead or senior engineer
- Experience contributing to tenders is a plus
Technical Skills
- Structural and/or geotechnical design and calculations
- Strong knowledge of Eurocodes (mandatory)
- Familiar with tools such as SCIA, Plaxis, Ansys, D-Sheet or similar
Languages & Requirements
- Dutch is mandatory (ability to write calculation notes independently)
- Based in Flanders or willing to relocate
- Able to work on-site 2 days per week (Ghent, Antwerp, or Ostend)
