Location Lucca, Italy

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and optimize the efficiency of nuclear power generation and thermal energy systems.
  • Collaborate with reactor, mechanical, and electrical engineers to improve heat transfer, coolant flow, and turbine efficiency.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy losses, enhance plant output, and improve sustainability.
  • Conduct energy audits, monitor plant performance, and identify areas for performance enhancement.
  • Support plant modifications, upgrades, and retrofits with a focus on energy efficiency.
  • Assist in the research and development of new energy technologies, including advanced reactor designs and small modular reactors (SMRs).
  • Evaluate alternative energy integration, such as district heating, hydrogen production, and smart grid resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, EPA, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Perform risk assessments, cost-benefit analyses, and life-cycle assessments of proposed energy improvements.
  • Prepare technical documentation, energy models, and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Energy Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in power generation, energy efficiency, or nuclear energy systems.
  • Proficient in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and energy conversion in nuclear systems.
  • Knowledge of steam cycles, turbine operation, and power grid integration.
  • Familiarity with NRC, DOE, and EPA regulations.
  • Experience with energy modeling tools (e.g., RETScreen, MATLAB, Aspen Plus).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE (Professional Engineer) license or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.
  • Experience with SMR or MMR technologies.
  • Knowledge of environmental impact assessments and sustainability frameworks.
  • Written and oral fluency in Italian.
  • Prior experience in a pre-IPO or high-growth company environment.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate with regulatory bodies
